HOME-grown Australian Offshore Superboat driver Darren Nicholson got off to a shaky start as pilot and team owner of a new raceboat dubbed 222 Offshore. Competing in the New Zealand Offshore Powerboat Racing titles last Sunday he and co-driver Peter McGrath flipped the boat at high speed but were unhurt. “Just one of those things,” Nicholson said. The sleek catamaran sports the iconic badge of car manufacturer Jaguar through a partnership with Queensland-based Austral Jaguar. They intend to compete in 13 races over the next 12 months, subject to repairs. Round 5 is set to be held on Lake Macquarie in October.
