Twin 454's 330hp each, trs drives. Boat's in decent shape, we put about 4K in the engines in 2011, all new gaskets, hardware, cast aluminum headers, exhaust tips, valve job. Gages are liquid filled about 5 years old. Trailer is aluminum I-Beam, all stainless hardware and disc brakes. The main problem is the gas tank developed a slow leak and needs to be repaired. It's a 150 gallon under the deck tank. Distributors have pertronix electronic ignitions installed.

Hull and stringers usually get damaged from gas leaking?

I mean if there is no fire...

Not necessarily. Assuming intact, unperforated glass. But the bulkhead of the tank cell forward of the tank, if not glassed, and if the foam is saturated... that's gonna be a gassy ass bulkhead.
Depends on where the leak is and for how long. If the leak is from a bad hose or sending unit hole, you can maybe "repair" it. If it is from galvanic corrosion between the outer tank wall and wet foam from a leaking cockpit floor, you are looking at a new tank and a complete resto. If the deck is off, the cockpit liner is out, and you are cutting out the old tank and removing the bad, gas filled foam, I'd be surprised if a stringer scared you.

The tank would be around $2,000 from Atlantic Coastal Welding, with hanging tabs, a fill, vent, and a sending unit. A little extra for return line fittings. More or less depending on the aluminum market. It's pretty nice aluminum.

If the tank needs to be replaced, it's a big job.

Pinholes and stained level lines in aft (usually worst) end of an 80s tank, after being cut out and hydraulically jacked up out of the tank cell.

At the pinhole level, gas gets out, and water gets in.

A leaky fill or vent hose would not cause this, and could possible be "repaired" if spilled fuel remained on top of tank.

If you like the boat Rick, explain all this to the seller and offer the value of the trailer or ask if you can view the part of the tank needing "repair."

    OH no...
There are enough boats out there w/o such troubles.
    I was just curious.
