Emergency management officials are trying to figure out how to catch a runaway house boat on the Kentucky River Saturday night. They say the boat and its dock broke loose in high waters in Madison County sometime Friday.
Emergency management officials say the boat and its dock broke loose from a location in Boonesboro, then traveled 110 miles downstream down the Kentucky River before it began to be spotted by people in Frankfort.
"There was a boat and a dock on the way. Said about 70 feet of dock and about a 40 foot house boat attached to that," said Emergency Management Director Tom Russell.
Russell says they're bracing for potential hazards.
"Not knowing how tall the boat was, I was checking bridge clearances, because we have two relatively low bridges here in Franklin County," he said.
The boat cleared those bridges and floated away from Franklin County without problems. Officials say high fast moving water with debris are likely the reason the boat dock broke loose.
"I'm sure mother nature had everything to do with that," said Russell.
The boat is currently heading towards the Ohio River. Officials say the boat's owner is in Florida right now. The coast guard plans to work with him to get a salvage crew that will try to stop the boat on the Ohio River sometime Sunday.

03-11-2015 06:34 PMIf you lived downstream you could have a nice boat and a new dock to tie it to.

03-15-2015 11:45 PMYep, I think his houseboat may no longer be his depending on his insurance. It also hit a couple bridges on the way. May be some additional expenses from that.....
