Heesen Yachts has launched over 170 vessels since it was founded in 1978, including the star of the above video, Galatea. According to the company, Galatea is the world’s fastest Dutch-built sportster, reaching a top speed of 28 knots (around 32.2mph), making it no surprise that she is a finalist for the World Superyacht Awards.
Heesen actually has a total of six yachts up for awards, but Galatea is by far the most attention-grabbing. The 40m aluminum semi-displacement design features the newest MTU 16V 4000 M73L engines, which is how it reaches such high speeds and maintains a nautical range of 2,200 miles. It has an eight-meter beam, giving it tons of interior space that allows for up to five cabins—including a large master suite with its own study, two VIP cabins, and two twin rooms. There are three distinct areas for entertaining and sunbathing, including a sundeck that can either be open or covered with a hard top. There is also a sun pad on the foredeck and a dining terrace on the aft deck.
We’ll have to wait until the award winners are announce on May 9 in Amsterdam, but we think the Galatea has a pretty good chance of coming out the victor.
