International racing series Powerboat P1 has announced its schedule for 2015, with six stop-overs in the UK for the SuperStock class.

Starting in Singapore in April, the P1 SuperStock 250 race series sees some of the world’s most powerful monohull boats go head-to-head at speeds of up to 70mph. More than 180 racers took part in the 2014 series.

Next year’s UK events will take place in London and Scarborough during May, Gosport in June, Hull (July), Cardiff (August), and Bournemouth (September).

The Scarborough event will take place over the weekend of 30-31 May. Exact dates for the other legs are yet to be confirmed.

Scarborough Borough Council has promised to put on plenty of entertainment for powerboat fans visiting the Yorkshire coast town, including live race commentary and prize draws.

Mike Cockerill, cabinet member for harbours at Scarborough Borough Council, said: “The West Pier and harbour areas will be a hive of activity during the weekend and will also be good vantage points from which to take in the adrenaline-fuelled action.

“By making the best use of the space and facilities the harbour has to offer, the activity off the water is set to be just as enjoyable as the action on the water.”

The 20-race series, which will be televised on Sky Sports, ends in October at the American venue of St Petersburg, Florida.

James Durbin, CEO of Powerboat P1, said: “With new deals secured to enhance our already extensive TV distribution, we are confident that the interest and commercial value of marine motorsport is increasing significantly.”

Founded in 2003, Powerboat P1 features four classes, ranging from jet-skis and RIBs to the more powerful SuperStock 150 and SuperStock 250 classes.
