    Where's Katharine?

The great white shark entered the waters off the Treasure Coast on Monday, but if you take a look at her track for the past nine months, she's steadily been making her way down the U.S. East Coast since she was tagged by OCEARCH on Aug. 19, 2013, in the waters off Cape Cod, Mass., according its website.

Thanks to the tagging device, you can find out where Katharine is every time she surfaces. Here's how:
    • Go to www.ocearch.org
    • In the Global Shark Tracker box on the left side of the page:
    • Change Sharks from "All Sharks" to "Katharine"
    • Click the Track Shark button

By changing the Tracking Activity setting in this box, you can also see where she was last recorded and her path over time. Each time you change the setting, just click "Track Shark" after you're done for the interesting results.

I think she's heading south because she heard of a Bobcat that likes to snorkel off of Key West.....

Looks like not the only shark coming to the keys to feast on some Bobcat steak.....

Rare goblin shark caught off Florida Keys

A fisherman hauling in his nets Wednesday near the Florida Keys came face-to-face with one of the rarest and ugliest sharks in the sea -- a goblin shark.

According to the NOAA Fisheries Service Facebook page:

Yesterday, a shrimp fisherman accidentally caught an 18 ft. goblin shark off the Florida Keys.

NOAA biologists are working with the fisherman to collect important information about the shark, a known deep water species. Shortly after capture, the shark was released and swam away. Biologists encourage people to call and report these rare sightings and catches as the information they can collect allows them to know more about a species.

The NOAA says it is only the second goblin shark of record in the Gulf of Mexico.

Some have been seen in the Atlantic off the coast of Guyana, Surinam, French Guyana, France, Madeira, Senegal, Portugal, Gulf of Guinea and South Africa, according to NOAA. Goblins were recently recorded in the U.S. off the coast of California and in the Gulf of Mexico near Mississippi.

The NOAA notes that few specimens have ever been caught, making it one of the rarest species of sharks, but we doubt too many people are complaining.
