2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible Unveiled Ahead of NYIAS

The engine in the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible is the same as the hardtop model, a 625 horsepower (466 kW) and 635 lb-ft of torque (861 Nm) supercharged 6.2 liter V8, available with a standard seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Match, or an all-new 8L90 eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission.

Structurally, however, the aluminum structure is 20 percent stiffer than the coupe to make up for the lack of a solid roof. The convertible comes with a canvas roof that can be lowered remotely using the car’s key fob even on the move up to 30 mph (50 km/h).

Just like the Coupe, the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible is available with the Z07 Performance Package, which adds Brembo carbon-ceramic matrix brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and adjustable front- and rear-aerodynamic components. But even the standard model comes with a cool aero pack, consisting of a front splitter, spats around the front wheel openings, a unique carbon-fiber hood with a larger vent, and rear spoiler. So either way, you get those awesome looks.

The fact that this model is a convertible, and therefore more suitable for cruising than racing, does not mean the car doesn’t work on the track. You still get a plethora of electronic wizardry including launch control, traction control, performance traction management, and electronic limited-slip diff. The convertible also has the same chassis tune and suspension as the hardtop version. The open top is just added bonus that enhances the driving experience of the Z06.
