Sometimes you get the chance to be at the right place at the right time. This February, on a last second trip to the Miami Boat Show, I was one of those lucky few. Enjoy and be jealous....

    Chief Warpath, Awesome Race Boat

Chief Pleasure, Favorite Boat at the Show
    Bobby educating

I spent a lot of time over at their site. You never knew who might show up. One of those happened to be Will Smith of Phantom Boats. There was some very good natured ribbing from Bobby about how "Make sure you get the story right, Wil copied me. I caught him under the boat with a camera and a ruler", etc. It's amazing about how stories and rumors go around the offshore world. But it was very interesting getting to listen to Bobby and Will discuss Vee Hull bottom design and drive capabilities. It's even more interesting when you know their two "Babies" compete against each other in the races in England like Cowes Torquay Cowes and the upcoming Venture Cup. Wil's 38' Phantom won Cowes in 2012 I believe, and both boats will be among the favorites for the next offshore race over there if things go according to plans.

I believe they left it at a challenge ping pong game for the best bottom design.

I kind of think Microlink Phantom and Warpath Chief will make the decision.....

I saw the mariners compass shadowed into the deck on the thread.

But I did not notice the shadowed wings in the bow then. There is an amazing amount of detail in this boat when you see it in different light and from different angles.

Unfortunately, the 21 Chief could not be there, it wasn't done.

That was early in the AM at the opening on day 4 I think. Ole was still getting around. I think he was still on Euro time!!

You should have seen him the day before with his pony-tail beard....

But he got the Warpath boat and model all to himself for his pic. Probably a master plan on his part......

It was great for Will Smith owner of Phantom Boats to stop by our Chief Booth. Will is one of the few builders in the industry that I truly respect for his dedication for perfection that goes into all of his products. We often rib each other on who is copying who. But the truth of the matter is our bottom are similar in theory but very different.. Will and I often say, we are the only ones in the hi-performance boat world,, that gets it..

It would sure be fun to have the two of you work together on a Vee design. Maybe throw in Peter Hledin for the trifecta!!!
