LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz.


Offshore Powerboat Racing is returning to Lake Havasu for the First Offshore Triathlon on APRIL 26 - 27, 2013.

The race will be held in conjunction with the Storm Chaser's Desert Storm Performance Boat Event in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Over 6,000 racers and spectators are expected to visit the Race Village.

The Offshore Powerboat Race will be sanctioned Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (POPRA) Offshore race boats will compete from all over the U.S., ranging from 22 feet to over 50 feet; POPRA boats speed upwards of 140 MPH in some of the Pro classes.

Lake Havasu City provides a wealth of family fun with great hotels, wonderful restaurants, and the world famous London Bridge. The rugged Arizona landscape with the beautiful lake provides a unique Wild West destination for racers and race fans alike.

Racing action starts Friday, Apr. 26, with 'The Lake Havasu Grand Prix' which will test the endurance of the race boats running at speeds upwards of 140 MPH for 70 miles.

On Saturday, the event shifts gears with the ultimate test of speed in the Desert Storm Shootout for a full blown 2 mile drag race for top speed followed by the 35 mile Offshore 'Tie Breaker Sprint'. Scoring, purses, and prizes will be based on the combined finishes for each of the teams.

Desert Storm Saturday Awards Evening begins with a Buffet dinner for participants and sponsors at the Nautical Inn followed by the Awards Party including cocktails and music.

The Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Association is one of the oldest offshore powerboat racing organization in the world. POPRA was incorporated in 1966 by the late Bob Nordskog, known around the world as the "Grandfather of Offshore Powerboat Racing". POPRA is the oldest recognized sanctioning body for boat racing in the U.S. The production of a POPRA race has a significant impact on the economy of the cities they visit in terms of tourist dollars in hotel, restaurant and retail sales from the racers and fans. POPRA draws participants from all over the U.S. and has produced races throughout the West Coast. Race sites include cities such as Dana Point, Long Beach, San Diego, Lake Havasu, Oceanside, Benecia, Pittsburg (Calif.), Ventura, San Francisco and Las Vegas (Lake Mead). Here you will find the Race Packet for Lake Havasu Race. We will be racing in conjunction with the Desert Storm Performance Boat Weekend. We are asking for your response & commitment to attend by sending a $500 deposit. If we do not receive commitment deposits from 15 teams by Feb.4th, 2013, the event will be cancelled & all deposits returned.

OPA and POPRA Board of Directors were forced to cancel the upcoming 2013 Lake Havasu Grand Prix which was in conjunction with the 2013 Lake Havasu Desert Storm Poker Run. The cancellation was due to the lack of registered/Interested teams. The POPRA members will be meeting in the next few weeks to determine if the organization has a future of continuing their offshore racing series on the West Coast.

I don't believe so. I think it's been two years since they had their last race on Havasu.
