the foam pad behind the vinyl in my cabin has been breaking down the last couple of years now and the cabin always has black dust in it. so this winter i pulled it all apart with the plain to install more bulkheads at the same time. now keep in mind mrs baron (sheri) only likes the cabin of the cig. also keep in mind we never used the cabin, we have never slept on the boat. it is just storage for rafts, towels and a cooler. we/i only go out and wave jump/hot rod or do a lunch run. so i have been trying to get the new bulkheads around the liner and it has been just a plan to do this right. last night sheri said it is your boat do to it what you want. a couple of my buddy's have been telling me to take the hole cabin/liner out for a while now and don't tell her, she will notice in the spring. i guess that is ask forgiveness not permission. it does knock about 1000bls out of the boat. the boat is 21years old now and in great shape. i plan on keeping it another 10 years or so, it will be 31 years old and i'm sure only worth the motors, drives and trailer in value at that point do to it's age. so what do you think? build the bulkheads around and into the liner or just cut it all out and do it right? if i do cut it all out i would do a cover girl style over time, and i do still have the vee berth in place for a nap.

01-21-2013 08:15 PMTough call. I'd make sure I had the basics covered, porta potty privacy, bunk to snooze, and that's about it for the basics from how you say you use the boat. However, a couple of benches to sit on in case of a storm would be nice.

hey paul, that were i'm at tough call. plain to get the bulkheads around the liner parts. as for a porta potty/head. it was never been used since the boat was new. just bumper storage for me. as for a snooze, hard to do when your boating. kidding, i did leave the front vee liner intact. so sheri can lay down. to cold the next couple of days to heat the shop, so i'm going to give it a beat until friday. i will get some more cut out and keep thinking what to do.

I would not think by your descriptions that the counters and cabinets would be missed too greatly.
I would still leave the spot for a potty, but I am used to wife and kids...
I hate when I gotta pull up anchor and leave a good time for an "emergency".
Friend used to have a Saber that he loved.
Really nothing under the deck.
Flat and open down there, pretty empty.
Just the berth's "deck" and the bench areas.
Plain carpet acress all of it and a headliner.
Tossed in pillows and blankets if overnighting and that was it.
Said it was his favorite and like how "spartan" it was.

well to late now. i have a bunch of liner cut out now. it is so hard to sell these boats now days. mine has fresh 3a's and tranny's. the hull and cockpit are in great shape, and i know i have a great boat (it's dry). you get into another boat of this sort and who knows what you are getting. most of the boats you see out there now are bravo boats, and that is not going to work for me. btw it looks like i will be having a lot of top gun cabin parts for sale if anyone needs something let me know.

good morning paul
it is on it's way out. there is no turning back now. i bet i have removed 600 - 700lbs so far. should have the rest out by the end of this weekend. then a good (bad) day of grinding and it is new bulkheads. then try to get it looking ok for sheri/mrs baron.

Our 2 $ ,That Cig gut sure looked pretty plush,to think that it was never properly christened ,seem a little uncivilized , just sayn. id've atleast let one of my friends do it.(they probably did,and if they didnt tell you , that means they didnt clean it up )
That 6-700lbs is going to get you some MPH.Might need some ballast,it certainly wont handle the same,kinda like a new/different boat.
We imagine ,you could christen the new non-interior,"if you like rough" sounds like a win/win either way

i've been told the liner weighs in at 1000lbs, and i'm sure that is on the lighter side. plus the head, water tank, pumps and pads etc. oh don't forget the cig liquor bottles. throw a couple hundred pounds of bulkheads and glass back in. it should be about 800+ lbs lighter. when in the channel and say 4 of the kids jump down in the cabin, so maybe 440lbs how much you can feel it. i can't wait to get it back out.

Todd , actually Rick V here in Holland did something along those same lines a few years back ,and could not believe all the un- necessary weight that was added to the boat ( cabin area / ply ) during its build or should we say overkill , and not to mention the head was Porcelain .

hey bill, this was to be a surprise to you as well as sheri. i was going to tell you about mid summer. lol. oh yea clifford is still in the back of my mine. you need to stop by one of these days and check it out now that you know. hey boat show next week some time?? we are going out with the strains saturday and i was going to see when he is going. sheri does not want to go, but i'm sure she would to make a night out of it.
