Last year's flu season averaged 20,000 deaths per month. This year, averaging under 5000 per month.

Flu Season That's Sickened 26 Million May Be at Its Peak More than 26 million Americans have fallen ill with flu-like symptoms, at least 14,000 people have died and 250,000 have already been hospitalized during the 2019-2020 flu season, according to estimates from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. www.usnews.com 2/21/2020

An estimated 80,000 Americans died of flu and its complications last winter, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. the nation experienced a record-breaking estimated 900,000 hospitalizations last flu season. The 2017-18 season was the first season to be classified as a high severity across all age groups.

Flu Season usually averages 4 months long.

To me, looking at the covid19 stats, the only control group we have is the cruise ship. On that ship, 99% of all who got the disease, (showed symptoms), recovered. All who did not recover were unhealthy or old.

But, we need to be very cautious to protect the old and unhealthy. The biggest issue I see, they say 85% of those who get the disease show zero symptoms. If that is true, it means that there are an additional 85 people out there who have the disease, are carriers, and we will never know it. Most logical estimates I've read, half the US population will have the disease within one year and 1% to 2% will perish.

Not sure what to believe. That would be as high as approximately 7 million deaths in a year? (Almost all old?)

    BAMM!!!!

I'm doing most stuff I normally do, including flying, but am carrying hand sanitizer (small in pocket, bigger in cars) and do not scratch anything without first using it.

I also use it after anytime I touch something like a public door or handrail etc.

And I do not go anywhere near an old or sick person just in case.

    Do not shake hands.

    That's my entire plan.

This is why I'm careful with what I touch and how I use 70% hand sanitizer. Kind of scary.

You are limited to what you see in the media. There are many scholarly studies already, including a significant analysis of the outbreak centered around the Wenzhou mall in China. There is a ton of info coming out of every country that has active cases, in real time. The Wenzhou study was particularly interesting, as it proved the virus lives a long time on fomites and that while it started with office workers, within a week they were shedding it to customers. Including people who did as little as touch an elevator button or buy an item from an infected person at a cash register. This means you can get it buying groceries from someone who doesn't know they have it. Do NOT overestimate your ability to handle this virus without oxygen support. Do not underestimate your opponent.

Oh, when I fly, like this weekend, I buy 2 seats so nobody can sit right next to me.

Does anybody have a clue what the hell is so different about Italy? That appears to be nuts! 35,713 cases, 2978 deaths, 8.3%. Just a lot more who have it but not confirmed? Something with eating pasta?

I think South Korea may be the most exact numbers to believe as to how it's gonna end up factually in this country. They are testing everybody in drive by's. Have 8565 cases, 91 deaths, 1%.

There is an Italian family in New Jersey, (trying to find out if they are part of a friend's family with the same last name), where three have already died and 4 more are in critical condition. Odd to me.

That really sucks. I'm thinking we will all know somebody who passes from this before it's over. Unless they come up with something soon.

Finally heard. Italy has the second oldest population in the world, behind Japan, but a crappy healthcare system.

We have been to Italy twice. Had a blast. Old and dirty might be a understatement. Cool place with a ton of history though.

My Aunt, in a assisted living home in Seattle, tested positive. Okay so far, but she is 80 and not in the best health to begin with. Not a good thing.

    Flying to Florida this morning.
