Hi Ho's!!! We have a bottle deposit return for refund scheme here. My brother is over almost every night and he drinks at least 2 two liter diet Pepsi's while here. I was putting them out for recycling but decided to save them. Been saving them since summer and yesterday took 250 back, still have 4 garbage of bottles left. .20cents each equaled $50 bucks. Stopped at Wal-Mart on my way home and donated the money to the Salvation Army. They had homeless kids singing Christmas carols, gave another $50 out of guilt.

Sometimes. Vancouver and the lower mainland is currently one of the most expensive cities to live in North America. Our welfare is pretty low, single Mother with 2 kids gets about $900 per month. Subsidized housing if you can get in is $526 per month including utilities. So lots of welfare families loose their home. I give to the local food bank (most families on welfare use them), toy's for tots (welfare is so low no money for toys) and Salvation Army (they also help those near homelessness).

12-13-2013 06:24 PMDifferent than the US I guess. In 2012, the last study completed I know of, the average American receiving government assistance received the equivelant of $32,748 when the average working American's disposable income was $32,446. That included food, shelter, clothing, college tuition, and health care.

Its way different. You can't qualify for welfare if you own a car or property. They'll tell you to sell them and come back when the money runs out. A single person on welfare receives $640 per month. No food stamps type program. My town is 40miles east of Vancouver with a 150K population and we have homeless shelters. Don't see that in American small towns.
They did a study here that included college courses, food, rent, etc. The average family would need $18 per hr. each to meet the bare minimum.

Vancouver's high costs have pushed people out here and now our rents are going sky high. I don't know how the average family survives here.Last edited by poncho; 12-13-2013 at 06:45 PM.

Perhaps you don't see it from Vancouver.
You see it from here.Last edited by fund razor; 12-13-2013 at 08:59 PM.
