    Brand new 502---everything brand new---Holley carb--MSD/ Max volt ignition---wires/plugs----everything brand new!!!! It's been a 2 year project---started the engine on the engine stand--started right up-----perfect idle after playing with the timing----BUT she won't rev up----she will idle--but when trying to add some throttle/rev her above idle-----no good----re-stared her 4-5 -6 times---same thing---perfect idle----no rev's !!!!!-----Engine tech w/ 25 years said-----never saw this before-----------

Bad Carb ???? Bad ignition????? Bad engine????? Any thoughts would be good !!!!

    Mike--------------Tampa Bay!!!!!!!!

You give it some throttle and it dies? Or still idles and changes nothing?

Was it a new crate motor or new from pieces? Put a vacuum gauge and a timing light on it. Does the timing move slow and smooth or does it change fast, not at all or lose spark? Does it have constant vacuum or does it all go away when you open the throttle? Will it rev up if you spay WD40 in it when you advance the throttle. Does it have 12 volts at the coil? Does the distributor body have a ground wire?

Thanks----when we rev it--sounds like it's sucking air--but stays at idle---does not stall---This coming Saturday we will try Mobilemercman's ideas----It is a complete long block w/intake----I added flywheel-starter-carb-all the engine drive front---(alt-water pump-power steering pump-impeller pump---wiring harness and ignition !!!!!
    Thanks !!!!!

OK---bad ignition box !!!!! Engine was finally timed good and runs like a top------everything checks out BUT my brand new Gil exhaust !!! One of the cast aluminum manifolds keeps leaking some water out from the bottom----brand new !!!! Going to try Hardin Marine's "Gil Replacement" manifolds and use my crome exhaust pipes !!!!
    Thanks-------Mike--Tampa Bay !!!

OK---engine runs great---exhaust manifold bolt was loose as we took her off to check for reversion------YES w/ this cam I have water reversion----Engine is finally in the boat--all plumbed--wired----But because of the water reversion, we ordered custom built risers from Stainless Marine here in Florida---12" high and the water won't mix with the exhaust til the end of the pipe!!!!??? ------Mike----Tampa Bay
