Here's the project, if you have the time!

1978 Hatteras Yachts Sportfish Project for Sale - iboats.com 999252

I believe all 78's were glass in the Hatteras lineup.

Damn Rat, you are quick,thank-you, yes all 78's we're. f/g.in fact Hatteras, via Jack Hargrave built their first full production f/g s/f in 1959. i dont think Hatt ever built a wood hulled S/F . (sailboats yes) i do like Hatts, they always had great lines, and undeniable pedigree. The 78 is listed at about twice what I'd be. willing to pay, in that condition. (someone messed w/ the salon window openings.)
Granted, the 30k is there, if the majored motors statement is true, but that's all the money, nobody's gettin "all the money " (great name for a boat) in the boat boat market today.
The best boats I've ever found, was by pounding the hard at marina's / backyard's.

That's the only one I've seen out there that I recalled that, if an accurate description, was all your hard work back in $$$$$$. Every other project would be a loss to redo that I recalled. The Hatt, was a break-even worse case I thought.

Now, if you didn't mind a wooden hulled boat, the Egg Harbors out there are some decent buys.

I don't know what kind of project you're considering. Like this? Which would be also a break even at least when done I believe.

That Hatt 40 ' was/is a good deal / boat ,but again at half the 30k sticker . Nice 40's W/decent rigging /electronics are topping. out in the 60's( realistically )
    but again good eye.

Now, if you didn't mind a wooden hulled boat, the Egg Harbors out there are some decent buys.

I love Eggs.,they have the best lines,I've ever seen on a S/F,from day one.
As much as this project /boat is going to float behind my project house in K Largo, I can't handle the "redheaded stepchild treatment " from Marina's on woody's,even glassed over boats are frowned on (2yrs upfront minimum depo) usually have to kiss their asses for a simple haul-out, to do a bottom paint.
if it was wood, it would have to be a a famous Rybo / Buddy Davis peice, something of that caliber, but even then ?

The only woodies that get any consideration round here are Carolina'$ in S/F anyhoo, but they are badass battleships. There is no "easy button " when it comes to buying Carolina's.

Wow, Ratickle, That is a major hit (the 52'Hatt) even at sticker "gone baby gone " ,i could've cried. That boat moderately rigged, w/semi-obsolete elects. is a Buck &half boat all day long,(even in this mkt)

!! That's the 2nd Ft Myers boat i snoozed on #uuuucccckkkk!!!!!(even if it was technically a Louisiana boat) Damn, o gotta get my spit together

    even looks good upside down!
the other FT MYERS boat i snoozed on 1968 Breuil Enterprise 37' 13'8" beam, a little on the short side, but for $3500 ,i would have had to buy it. very cool looking boat. missed it by 4hrs.

gonna upgrade my membership this week, whatever i have to do to get P.M. privileges.

a simple p.m. would have made for an excellent day, on the 52' HATT.
I'M obviously looking in the wrong places.

Don't stop Ratickle, the Hatt, definitely qualified for an Fndrs Fee .

At the moment I'm in the 25-30k range. I'm expecting an all out repower, no electronics/navigation.,interior needing update boat.
I have a set of half built 871's and ZF gears,w/access to a pair of 1271' w/ about 3000 highly maintained hrs.
Naturally I'm not opposed to a steal/fire sale boat.
But realistically I'm picturing a 40/50k materials bill + my labor @2yrs.give or take.

*** that 84 52' HATT I may have begged, borrowed stolen, raped and plundered for. I made the call on that one, gone but, they gave me the number for the broker that listed it,saying he had others / others coming up on the block . IM gonna call him tomorrow

Even if i chopped them to 50k ,found the extra 20k i couldn't float that fuel bill. i would've had to sell it if it broke enroute, wherever it broke.

I'm guessing it's nearly gutted, judging from the add, seems to be the next logical move, full interior update

We'll just strap on a 25 HP outboard. Won't burn much fuel at all to get there. (May take awhile though)......

Ok,now I'm gonna have to get more homophobia. therapy, that's gonna set me back aleast a G on my project budget.
    no strap--ons for me thank-you!
+(i have a perfectly legitimate excuse/story for the homophobia. but we're project S/F shopping here. ))
No, not about the 41. But i did call Travis, the number i got from the Louisiana gone 52' Hatt, left a detailed msg, but haven't heard back as of yet.

i don't mean to be such a picky brokeass boat shopper, " but i gotta be me."
