It was nice to get the low down on the "Old number 7". What a cool ride..

I have enjoyed countless hours behind the wheel of Velocity 22's and 30's. Actually some of my fondest memories are from a summer many years ago in a Red 30. Not too many pix exist from that summer but, then again sometimes its better that way.

Just remembered..I met my good buddy Art Lilly in a 30 named Blondie. She went 87mph back in the early 80's . Not many could even talk about going that fast then. ... man o man the good times we had.

It was really fun being able to do the interview with Steve. The first time I ever spoke with him was in '82. He was helping us dial on a P-class Velocity 30. He really hasn't changed in all these years.

I didn't know about the JD boat until Paul showed me the picture. The editorial guys did a great job helping me put the story together and thanks to Tommy Snyder for finding the boat and providing the photos.

I first met Steve when he was still on Powerline Drive in Pompano. Art and I stopped by on the way to the '85 Worlds in Key West. The following year Art and his buddy Stoney campaigned the Joker a twin 200 Stock B 22 Velocity. It was my introduction to Offshore caring for the boat and readying it for races. We went to Sodus Point, Port Huron , Miami and Key West in '86. We beat the K and K Ghost in Huron. It also set a Kilo record in Lake Pontchartrain. Can't recall the races in '87. I know we were in Key West and Raced it in Grand Haven at some point.

Side note ..I remember watching a video of Still Crazy lunging from wave to wave. Those guys ran the s*** out of that thing. Maybe someone can find and share the vid here with us. I haven't seen it in 25 years.

Great story. Steve was one of the best outboard racers in the country way back before he moved to offshore. He brought a lot of secrets with him and jumped right into the lead right away.

Maybe you can get him to give you the story of how he beats all the old guys on the senior golf tour too.

A really good guy, and a really good racer too. Good story, thanks.

I'm not usually a fan of "theme" boats, but I have to admit I really like this one.
But, I admit, I'm really partial to a single engine 22-28' that is well executed on the build.
Velocity did a really nice job on this one!
And, I'm a fan of JD - just try to stay away from it these days - bad things happen when Jack and I get together...

I remember that one time Art briefly stopped by the shop. Never saw him again after that, lol. Man, that was a filthy place. I too would love to see some of the old Captain Maintained 22 flying over the rough stuff, as well as the 30. It was unbelievable video. Like you said, have'nt seen those films in decades!

Jim, I had fun ride in the "Joker" after it was retired. Went from Red Eyes to Annapolis in the night to pick up some
ladies. The kid driving was pretty good on the throttles, that thing was quick with the twin 200's. Not the smartest thing to do but the memories are forever. You might not remember me but Rick Scott introduced me to you and you sold me a powerhead for my 33 Sonic.
