John,
I wanted to send you this note because we have had several requests for your 2006 GMC Sierra 3500. We are in dire need of quality pre-owned GMCs by October 31st.
As a manager, I wanted to let you know that we have been able to reduce payments for several customers and I think we will be able to do the same for you.... Plus, I will offer you top dollar for your 2006 GMC Sierra 3500. Especially with 1.77% financing will be available for up to 72 months* on new vehicles, no payments for 90 days or choose from factory rebates up to $6,750 off MSRP on 2011 F-150s, or I will cut you a check for $6,750.
Please stop by or call and ask for me personally if it looks promising.

General Sales Manager
So Ford wants my One Ton, Dually, Duramax Diesel, Crew Cab, SLT package (leather, bose, sunroof, rear entertainment, Onstar) truck with a 14,000 lb conventional towing capacity and they are willing to trade me a spanking new F-150 for it. Sweeeet.
I am sure that the F-150 is a nice truck, heck... all full size trucks have their appeal. But his note sure makes it seem like that is not what his customers are looking for. Ford letterhead and the words "dire need" for my GMC truck.
If I were in a similar situation as him, I would have tried to push the F-350 on me. I may have at least looked at it. But a half-ton was a lousy carrot for a guy who actually needs a one ton.

Not an anti-Ford or anti dealer thread... btw.
One part "head scratcher" and one part "if you like this deal, now's the time to buy a Ford."
I looked at 350s when I was shopping for a tow vehicle.

10-27-2011 07:42 AMIf you decide to trade it in on a really nice F150 two wheel drive, with a V6 so you can get really great mileage (But not tow your boat safely) let me know what they offer you. I'm considering one............

If you are looking for a half ton, I think now is your time to buy a 2011 for cheap.

You know this is a form letter, right? I get those about once a year!
They just want you to trade in your used truck and get a new one.If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

I am in the direct mail business. Behind every form letter is a set of query parameters that segment your list by different data. I was a little surprised that they would choose the models in question as comparables for marketing purposes.
At least the GM dealer offered me a 2011 Chevy Impala in exchange for my 2007 Chevy Malibu. A little better segment fit there.

John, (based on demographic data) they might be suggesting that you downsize completely. If you get a subsequent letter proposing a new 17' Bayliner for the old Apache then you have a perfect fit for the F-150.

See if they have a one-fitty in that funky teal/turquoise color that was available in '94 - now that would be a DEAL!!!
Bet you could negotiate to have them throw in some spinner hubcaps...
Tell ya what,
I'll offer you the same money on the Benz, in trade for my go-kart...
We are in "dire" need of Benzeses, and have an overstock of go-karts.
Please stop by or call and ask for me personally if it looks promising."Keep the bottle on the bar Ira, I won't be long".
