09-19-2011 10:39 AMFrank, I believe evryone is glad the organization is doing the inspections for legality of the complete drive train. I've heard no negatives, only the hope for a completely level playing field. And, with the exception of one boat, I don't think it has ever varied far from that.
This one is easy I believe, There are 12 or 13 boats out there. 10 or so want to race right now, just want the rules to be maintained and enforced. And when I say race, I mean race - not exhibit. There are no other classes in Spec Racing that have that kind of possibility, and interest, currently. The next closest are the Stock Outboards. The Stock Outboard rules are the same all over the world, no issues to hassle out anymore on rules. How they police the engine rules in SO, you would know a lot more about that than I would. But, it would be something to consider as a baseline.
The SVL guys and girls all talk, race, compete, and discuss things as a class, sometimes maybe a little to emotionally in public, but getting better. That's why when I talked with Mark about the rebuild of his boat, I was adamant he should make it an SVL legal combination. I was positive from talking with everyone else they would be unanimous in their grandfathering of his hull under the existing rules. I'm glad the boat is in SVL, I certainly hope you guys are too. The progress is fun to watch, and you are on the verge of the SBI national championship.
I think you are too. There are still some small tweaks I think should happen to the rules, (you know most of it), but the clarification done this year and the tech inspections discussed for the worlds, have gone a long way to improve the overall attitiude. The proof to me is there have been 6 or 7 different SVL's so far compete this year in SBI vs only the 2 last year (with the exception of the World's where there were 4, well 3 ) I know of two more teams looking at SVL's now, and that's not counting myself. But, just like me, they need to know the rules are such that the curerent fleet of boats will not be obsoleted, and that the rules will be enforced.
By the way, I'd love to see all the boats in both OB and KW, including Absolutely Not......

Been sitting back quietly watching. I have spoken to a few of the teams. Not going to make a bunch of smoke here, except to let you all know you are always welcome. We'll keep it simple, fair, and crown the winners. Smitty
