    Thumbs up
Today is Coast Guard Day. They do an amazing job on Lake Erie. I'll bet that they do an amazing job where you boat too.

Hug a Coastie... and thank them for making our home waters safer and foreign ports safer for our troops.

The GR Press showed a shot of a pontoon headed out the channel past the cutter Mackinaw. The 'toon looked TINY... (yep, tiny 'toons)
That thing doesn't look too impressive up close (roller paint job and all) but you got a good perspective of it's size in their pic.

Around here they are so busy with rescues that they don't have much time for boarding. I have been stopped by other agencies, but never boarded by the coasties so I didn't even think about the other side of it.

They were extremely helpful with the Smoke run.

One of my uncles was a Coastie. He had one entire tour on a lightship out in the Bering Sea. He talked about storms where the waves were so big the light at the top of the mast would stick in the wave that went past when they were going up the next one, and the wave coming when they were going down the backside of the wave. He said that was with the ship wide open trying to stay in position, something like a 3 mile radius, but they would still get blown out of the circle.

It is fun to watch them train at the mouth of the Columbia River...

Next time I see a good look'n brunette coastie with some great uppers, I will sure to give her a hug. Not many around here. But in all seriously, all the best to the my coastie buddies.
