Just testing the waters for the southern Lake Michigan guys to see if there would be any interest in having a aerial photoshoot one saturday this summer? I have a friend on mine who is a top notch professional photographer and were discussing getting some action shots of my boat and another friends. I figured I would put this out there to see if it generated any interest before taking any further steps...

Basically, why I had in mind was a flat fee to get him out there... That would of course depend on the amount of boats that he had to shoot. From that point, something along the lines of a 2 pass shoot, at the end of the day, he could post the pics up on his site for ordering or meet up with everyone in the later part of the afternoon to start the screening process. From there, you pay for why size and qty of the prints you want. This would be ideal for those who want decent pics of there boat running but don't do poker runs....

Let me know what you guys think...

    Todd

    Thanks Todd.

The Chicago Powerboat Club used to do something like that. I remember joining in on it several years ago, it was pretty cool.

    I won't be there, unfortunately.

Have you looked into what it costs to get a chopper? I think the photog would be the cheap part...

If you want some cool pics of your boat while you're biking, tall Keith said he wouldn't mind running your boat for you that weekend

The last time we rented any helo's for the last poker run, the R-44's were $400/hr. the smaller ones were about $300/325. I knew the owners, so we got a lil discount on top of those prices. The photographers were to say the least, not very educated on shooting boats and capturing the moments that we all want to see. The videographers, well, just plain sucked. I specifically asked for AND told them I wanted "directional mikes" for the video's. They told me that they knew what those were and would use them.
For those of you that don't know what a directional mike is, it's kinda of a "megaphone" looking thing that picks up sound where ever you point it. I told the video guys to point the mike at the back of the boats to pick up the sound from the engines. It also eliminates all the other noise interference from the blades and rotors, and the wind from speeds in excess of 50-60 mph and faster. Well, they NEVER used em, and when I asked why, they told me that they did'nt really understand what I was talking about. WTF !! Those guys were supposed to be professionals ??? Yea, right.

I've got a "great" photographer, and one of my very close friends that I grew up with, that shoots all of our drag races when we go racing. The guy's REAL good at what he does, and has the best of camera equiptment. I know that he would do this for me if I asked him, and he's NOT afraid to sit on the open door of a helo and shoot.
What would be really cool, would be to have a "real" videographer shooting video's along next to the photo guy. That way, we could get the best results for our money of renting the bird. I don't really know anyone that would be qualified enough to shoot the videos the way I'd like to see them, and with a directional mike. I KNOW, that I could shoot way better vid's that the guy that we paid the last time for our poker run, but, I'll probably be in a boat. LMAO.
If a bunch of us guys would want to do something like this, we would probably need to generate at least about $2500 to cover all the costs from the helo rental, to the finished DVD. Not exactly sure on the #'s, but just using an educated guess on the past ones we did. So, at 20 boats, that $125 per boat, and not a bad price to get some good footage and pics. BTW, the pics will be free, we would just need to give the guy a few bucks for his time, and maybe an invite on the boats to some of our other gatherings. LOL
The helo's charge from the time they leave the ground, to the time they land, so the travel time is about 30 minutes each way. So, that's an hour that we have to pay just for their travel time.
