    Pretty wide open...
    but
I drive over 120 miles a day and went as cheap as I could. I went through 2 Taurus wagons. May not have to go for the wagons, but I think you would have a hard time beating the Taurus for overall affordability, middle of the road mileage and sort-a roomy. I now have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. Sportier, about same mpg, I am not as comfortable due to lower seating position, but not a wagon...
    Happy shopping.

I am a few inches taller and weigh the same. I also have a duramax, but for my 500 or so commuting miles each week, I drive a Malibu with the 3.5 liter V6. Cheap car. I get 30-33 hwy depending on speed. It is a 2007. I have owned it since 2007. Probably the cheapest transportation that I have ever owned. (I now have 90,000 miles on it and have done pretty much only preventative maintenance.) It did need struts and control arms at 80,000.

I am looking to buy a 4-door sedan for my girlfriend. We are looking at the Chevy Malibu and the Subaru Legacy.

The Subaru has all-wheel drive. That is something to consider if you plan to drive down dirt roads (she lives on a ranch in Dripping Springs) or if you have to go to work during bad weather (snow, ice, rain).

The only domestic car that has available all-wheel drive is the Dodge Charger RT. It has a V8 so the gas mileage won't be great, but it's a fun car!

    Good luck!
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

I don't do dirt roads, but I do plenty of snow, ice and rain. Often at the same time. Anyway... I find that the front wheel drive in the Malibu is a little more predictable than the 4 wheel drive of my truck and with the Malibu being so light, it doesn't get away from me as easy. I have many hours driving on ice and snow and have not had a scary moment with the Malibu yet. I thought about getting something nicer, but I figure I might as well keep the Malibu because it is so cheap. What I don't get is why the insurance for a $10,000 Malibu is more than my one ton GMC 3500 or the MB.

I have driven my FWD G6 all winter, which started this year in mid November. Only problem was a day when I had 8 in of snow in my driveway and after picking up the mail I didnt have enough speed to get up the hill in my driveway.

It must because if you have an accident in the Malibu, it will have much more damage to it than if you have an accident in the one-ton GMC!

Co-worker's wife just got a Ford Edge . I think an SEL package.
Way sharper than most I have noticed. Nice rims/tires, dual chrome exhaust tips, you know, everything you need

They are in their 70s, so I was surprised to see something as sporty as what it was. She seems to love it.
