Its a 38 Bertram Competition all right - from the engine hatch scoops to the side exhaust - to me its a re-painted boat from Preston Henn - was light blue at one time

She was sold in 2009 and sent to Kuwait. It was fun to own it for the years I had it. He got a very nice boat. However he didn't get the model so I still get to see the mini version everyday at work.Click image for larger version.

Talking about Bertram's. This is my latest addition to my fleet, a 28' Bertram Baron. I'm up in the air as of now to restore her or sell it back to the family who's father raced it back in the day. I have 5 offshores now but this was to cool of a boat to left in the field & forgotin. Here are some pic's of her current condition & past life.

There Volvo 270 drives raised 5" with Wolverine beryllium bronze gimbals. With the 400cu small blocks it rocked.

Beryllium bronze, the thinking was unbreakable? Was that a problem with Volvo's?

Do you know the history behind the name? I'm trying to figure it out. I keep thinking of Mothra and Godzilla......

Gerry Miller & his family own Miller marina on the nautical mile in St Clair Shores Mi. There logo is the Miller moth, hence SUPER MOTH. After Jerry passed Chip & his mom have run it. Chip Miller has been a racer & the one who put together the Flight Club Skaters for Ron who's hosted Skater Fest here on Lake St Clair. IF I don't restore the Bertram Chip has showed some interest in his Dads old race boat. As far as the Volvo drives racers will always find the weak spot, these parts made them better. Pete Smith [ WOLVERINE ] & Kenny Black [ Lil RHINO ] casting & machine shops made many parts for the Volvo drives in the early 70's even new speedmaster type lowers.

Bill & I today sold the Bertram Baron to Chip Miller who's father owned & raced this classic some 37 years ago. As much as Bill & I wanted to restore this Baron we knew it should go back to the Miller family who brought it to Lake St Clair originally back in the early 70's. One look at Chip standing at helm of his late fathers race Bertram we knew Bill & I made the right choice. Chip who has put together some awesome Flight Club skaters will restore this classic back to the way she raced back in the day. This has to be the best offshore I have ever laid hands on, but some times you have to do the right thing, Chip I cant wait to see the progress.

Neither can we. That is really awesome for you to make sure they had the opportunity to own their father's boat. And it is also incredible that they are planning on restoring it to the race beast it was. Too many times these boats disappear never to be seen again. Thanks being in the right place, at the right time, with the right principles.

Chip is just finishing up his Donzi Criterion restoration that belonged to William Clay Ford of the Ford car company. Chip plans to start the Baron restoration in the next few months. Chip just gave the Baron a quick clean up & it looks better already.
