I am think about starting a new business. However, I don't want to be "open" at night, on the weekends, or on holidays.

So, bars and nightclubs are out. Anything in retail is out. Anything boat related is out.

    Any ideas?

That will narrow it down some, Not being "open" at night or weekends would mean dealing with companies and not John Q Public.

Make a list of every type of business that meets those criteria and choose.

If your the guy writing the checks then 40 hours a week will do nothing but assure you go OUT of business.

Clay - let me know when you figure it out.
I'm looking to do the same thing.

I got away with it as a construction contractor for a decade, but the bottom (obviously) fell out of construction.
I was making good money and on my boat 6 days a week by no later than 5:00 - 3:30 on Fridays.
I want to go back to that life, but not sure how to do it in todays market.

Thinking the grass i greener on the other side without even knowing what kind of grass your going to plant is the perfect recipe for bankrupting yourself.

Getting bored with life and starting up a business just becase you have money to burn is also a perfect recipe for bankrupting yourself.

Unless you want to make less money doing twice the amount of work for the next several years then stick with what your doing now. The only guys I know who became self employed over night, instantly made tons of money, and worked very few hours doing it are all behind bars.

That is my biggest fear. I'm a smart guy, but I'm lazy.

Thanks for all the comments! I guess I will keep working for someone else and play on the lake! :-)
