I'd love to see other engine builders to enter the class, but then you run the risk of going back to wallet racing. As soon as the Ilmor shows an advantage over the Merc, one of two things will need to happen. 1 - Everyone buys an Ilmor. 2. The Ilmor boat get slowed down for parity. It's a slippery slope once you open the door. One reason this class thrives is the low cost of remaining competitive.
From conversations we've had, I believe Smitty will provide a solution that takes care of the 525/bravo program. Give him a few weeks to get it on paper.

11-17-2010 12:33 AMIf the engine meets the spec's set forth in the rule book there is no reason not to open it up. The more engine builders the better, Innovation, and Tyler also come into play.

11-18-2010 10:32 PMThe problem with that is the cost of re builds become costly, and then dyno time again.
Why wouldnt u want multiple engine builders, and fresh blood that wants to help the sport, support teams and possible sponsorship money? If you go with that therary then we should only have one boat builder and then really have the teams make the difference.
Merc has sucked about all the blood they can out of most of us.
We all saw what one engine supplier being in control did to F1,F2, and the Supercat Class.

You dont have to change anything, you have Merc and Votrec now doesnt seem to cause a problem. If another builder can build the same engine and can offer it at as good or better price why not? Doesnt mean anyone has to buy anything just another option.Last edited by XtremeRacing; 11-18-2010 at 11:02 PM.

11-18-2010 10:57 PMI dont think it really matter what engine it is if it meets spec's . Thats not the problem, policing is the issue not the motor.
If you think about it a motor is no different then a boat if it fit and meets spec's it works. Its the inspection that make the difference.

11-18-2010 11:06 PMWith the equipment SBI has there might even be an easier and less exspensive way to do it all. We are looking at different option might now. I spoke to Steve about it today and value his opinion he seemed open to the idea so we will talk more about it.
