I am looking at a project that may involve changing from a Volvo to a Merc drive. The boat is a 1969 Correct Craft Torino. Most of these boats were built with an inboard V-drive, but this one has a Volvo stern drive. It had a 220Hp 302 Ford engine. They were supose to run in the mid 50's with this set up. I am thinking about 300-325 Hp threw a Merc drive. The hull weighs about 1200lbs. Should I be thinking Bravo, or would an Alpha do the job? What is the best way to go, and what kind of job am I looking at? They were built as an answer to the Donzi Sweet 16. It looks very much like this:

how about one of the knock-off Chinese Alpha's, can't hardly go wrong unless you plan to beat the sh*t out of it continually.

Not really into Chinese stuff, but what I am really trying to find out is how much transom work is there to make the switch?

Complete transom re-do.... no similiarity in the mounting patterns or cut out.... did the same thing to an older Donzi last year - pulled all the Volvo stuff and installed a non-current 454 with a Bravo drive.... had an odd list to it - ended up installing tabs - the Volvo drive used a left hand prop - of course we ran a right hand on the Bravo set up.... tabs took care of the list... didn't have any throw down left hand Bravo props at the time... and the owner wanted tabs anyway....
