Stacy Rowell, the owner of the Ford dealership, caught a sailor walking out of his car lot with a wheel he had removed from one of the cars.

Robert E. Curry, digging for bottles on Rest Beach, found a set of brass goblets and tray that were buried about four and half feet underground.

The Florida Keys Aqueduct Commission announced it had retained the Flour Corporation to study Monroe County's pressing water problem.

A federal court jury in Miami found that cigarettes were reasonably safe and wholesome for human consumption.

Key West Police Chief Perez ordered his officers to stop bolita in the city, ordering them to "arrest everybody with a bolita ticket and I mean everybody."

The Old Island Restoration Foundation sent a plea to Bishop Coleman Carroll to save the original wooden building of the Convent of Mary Immaculate.

State Conservation biologists were using cyanide to study methods of reducing what had been termed as an alarming increase in the shark population in the Keys.



A Royal Air Force crew, from Ballykelly Air Force Base in North Ireland, arrived at the Naval Air Station for training with VX-1.

Tony Estenoz was the only Key West winner in Sunday's outboard racing at Boca Chica in the Fall Regatta sponsored by the Key West Outboard Club.

The U.S. Bureau of Commercial Fisheries reported that the revival of the commercial shark fishing industry would be the most effective method of combating the rising population of sharks.

Any idea if that was true, or just a fabrication to benefit shark fisherman?

Jack Grey's wife put her husband out of business temporally when a bottle-breaking argument erupted in the Downtowner barroom. Police reported the "place looked like a hurricane went through." Grey himself was sporting a lump on the side of his head.

The Key West Outboard Club closed the year with races at Boca Chica. The winners for the year were Steve Russell (Junior 36 cu. in.), Tony Estenoz (Senior 26 cu. in.), Burt Ware (Cruisers), Nilo Rodriguez (Cruisettes) and Burt Ware (free-for-all).

State beverage agents and sheriff's deputies raided the Elks Club for gambling violations and seized slot machines, crap tables and roulette wheels. No arrests were made and none were expected.

The Tomato Patch Bar on Duval Street was placed "on limits" by the Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board and the Boca Chica Bar on Stock Island was placed "off limits."

The Boca Chica Bar was just like the bar in the Blues Brothers...right down to the chicken wire over the bar...

The Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board issued a clarification that the only places off limits in the Lower Keys were the Boca Chica Bar on Stock Island and the Habana Madrid in Key West.

Three card players were arrested by Deputy Sheriff Ed Curry for gambling at the Hi Hat Café at 400 Petronia St.

The Fraternal Order of Police passed out ice cream bars and fudgesicles to the prisoners in the city and county jail.
