Maybe I should ask, would my 540 be better off with a 1050 rather than my original HP500 830?

Sorry, did I re-start an old thread?
Maybe I should refer to Rumrunner for Carb questions?

    Hi all,
I know this is an old thread but I recently bought one of these 540cu/575hp engines with the la enterprises crank. I just bored it to 4.5" and am having trouble finding the correct replacement pistons, the 4.375" stroke throws me, I can't find much available to suit. I'm hoping to increase static compression to around 10:1. Can anyone help me out ? Cheers

That's a tough one compared to the 4.250 stroke.
I think Mahle has an off the shelf piston in 4.5 x 4.375, but no idea how their piston/top design would impact your goal of 10:1.

I believe that Teague is a dealer for the LA Enterprise cranks. Call them out there, maybe talk to John or Cherilyn Teague, and see what they say. The LA cranks are made by Bryant and good pieces.

If you have any problems getting the info you need, and I doubt you will as they are very knowledgeable and professional, let us know. I have two other custom engine builders in this area I can chat with, but I trust Teague completely.

I'll shoot them an email letting them know you're calling.

I'm curious too. There have to have been others who bored these to 4.50.

    G'day,

So it's been about a year since I lost this thread finding my pistons! I'd lost interest in the whole thing for a while after the guy I bought the complete engine from sold it to me as just needing a freshen up (ie - hone, ring and bearings). What I ended up with was very different!

Anyway,I rang the Teagues thanks, they were very helpful but there was nothing off the shelf they could do. So, I asked my local (Aussie) machine shop guy to come up with a solution, he used a set of forged JE flat top pistons and had to machine 40 odd thou off the top. He also re-machined the valve relief to suit. So I'm just getting into it again, I have prepped the block the machine work is done and its time to start bolting things together.

    Cheers!
