I need to pick up a boat in Northern OH, and haul it out to AZ.
Want to fly into Cincy, drive up to NE Ohio for a few days, and then haul out to AZ.
    Hauling a 26' Wellcraft aft-cabin cruiser (~5000 lbs) on a tri-axle trailer.
Any suggestions of who I can rent a truck from to do this?? I want to make sure that towing is not a problem with the truck rental Co.
I'm not in a rush to get this done, but want to do this before weather in the midwest goes to hell for the winter, and trying to do all this on a time and money limited budget.
Any suggestions?? Who have you guys used?

I'd get that weight verified before I tried to make any solid plans for the tow vehicle.

I tried that a fews yrs back. Every truck rental place (even Penske) choked and wanted crazy $'s up front.

Eventaully worked out a deal with a guy on www.uship.com. Didn't do a ride along, but followed and paid for meals & fuel.
It worked out allot cheaper then any rental I could find.

What he said! U haul rents 2wd F150's with a class 3 hitch. You should be good... Quick FYI donot pay for extra insurance, yours will cover everything sans your deductible should anything happen....

The ~5000 was from the original Wellcraft brochure. It's been easily hauled with a half-ton all it's life.

I may just have to have the wife drive my 3/4 Avalanche back there, and then fly out and haul it back. She has plenty of time to take off work, I just started a new gig a few months ago, so I have almost nothing in the PTO dept. And, I've been doing 55-65 hr weeks every week, so if I decide to take a few days - it's just not gonna be pretty. I kinda walked into a position of "create an entire dept. that doesn't exist". So, to say the least, I'm busy. And tired.
Wife is perfectly capable and willing to haul it through the midwest, but I don't want her trying to haul it through the mountains.

5000 seems low to me for an aft cabin cruiser, especially sitting on a tri-axle trailer. If it's a brochure number, I'd bet it is. My crownline was 27 foot, listed in brochure as 6600 lbs. On a dual axle aluminum trailer ready to go to the lake, it was over 9000. It was towed with a 1/2 ton a few times itself, but I sure didn't like it.

Not sure where you're taking it to in AZ, but I've done the drive going out I70 to I44 to I40. I can't remember there being anything that would have concerned me with towing a boat that route.

going west on I-40 when you leave flagstaff there are some pretty good downhill places. But if he is coming I-40 he will turn south on I-17 to go home. That route also has some pretty good up and down areas. An avalanche will stress a little on the downslide parts, the brakes may be at their limit. You would have a little more miles but I would recommend I-40 west out of texas and go south on I-25 in new mexico to I-10 west to home. Little more miles but more flat highway

Is your boat still in OH?? What, are you freakin' nutz!?!? You're in Florida!

I would think it wouldn't be that hard to find somebody on here that would be traveling empty to FL that might be able to help you out.

I don't think I'm gonna find anybody heading from OH to AZ though...

Make a vacation out of it for me, Kemosabe.

It could live in my yard during any time in between.

I just turned XM on in my one ton.

I really need to make a trip back there to see the folks and family...
Me and Jody were just discussing tonight about how we need to make this happen.
But, I may need to get my azz to Kentucky to check on the house there before the renters move in.
So little to do, and so much time...

If you're looking to get away for a bit, it's a long haul - 2-3 days each way. But you'll see some of the most beautiful country, and I don't care what anyone says about the heat out here, it's worth it just to have the surroundings. If you want to haul it out here for me I'll cover fuel/food/lodging - and you'll be treated like a king out here.
I'll take down the sign that say's Dyce on the doghouse and put one up that says FUND, that way you'll have your own private room. And, you'll have a catered breakfast of IAMS.

Ya, I know... I have my little center console down here now in the canal in my back yard. So that gets me through....

Long story short, I dont know where to put the Formula here and dont have a truck. I could get a lift and keep it at the house but its 45 minutes to the ocean from here. I think once it gets here I'm just going to get a cheap truck to haul it to the ramps here and park it in the driveway.

I've got a plan with someone once the season ends in OH to haul it down here and have him stay for a week or so but i'm getting impatient.
