Could anyone with a Mercruiser 496 give me some typical figures as to the water pressure of the sea water pump at idle and say 3600 rpm. Thanks...

on my 540 cu. in. engines they run 15 to 17 psi, when up & running, it seems to be very adequate for cooling, at idle my gauges barely show any pressure, but I have alot of exhaust water at idle, you don't want too much psi or you will start blowing hoses.

08-18-2010 02:45 PMI believe your asking about a 496MAG or 496HO...
If so, they are closed cooled motors and have a different water setup.
I have several Diacom readouts and all read 3-7 at idle and 34-43 at 5000+ rpm on various boats.
