I have come to understand, I cannot afford to rebuild my Gen 6 motors.
One was running when pulled and other had a rod bearing go out.
I bought a 10/10 polished/fluxed crank and told the rods were good.
I had the heads done, and even had little pocket port work done on the bad motor.
neither had roller cams as they have flat tappet cams in them.

the bad motor was checked out by the machine shop and was ready for a rebuild when I lost my job. It is a standard bore.
I do not know about the other motor as not have had it apart to check.

Now, I was thinking about selling them and buying "running 454 motors to put in my 86 wellcraft eagle(as that was in it when new)

I have no idea what the motors are worth, or should I look for someone who wants to trade for running 454's...

Also, do I really need these motors (502s)and what would be the difference between the two. They are not high hp motors anyway...

    what do you think???

I just want to have my boat running.

Rebuild what you have. Gen VI motors should have factory rollers. Check the front timing cover and see if it is a composite material or metal. If you cannot afford to rebuild you will most likly not find working engines for less money.

Johnny, What you got is at least a known commodity. Keep it simple and just do the minimum to get things running. - Jeff

The least Ican do is re-ring them and new bearings/gaskets...
Who knows how long that will last and to tell you the truth I do not have the cash for that right now.

I am thinking of just selling the boat cheap and be done with it all...

That is another simple way to do it. But bummer your getting out. It is a pretty expensive hobby.

I might not be getting out, I have put the motors for sale on a few boards and getting alot of interest.
Also found a few "sets" of 454's that are affordable if I sell my motors.
They are below the amount I am selling the 502's so it gives me extra money
    to have the motors installed.
Like I have said before, I would rather have a running boat with 454's in it then a boat just sitting with 502's on the stand.
So lets keep our fingers crossed, and hope this works.......
