    Delete Cookies Advisory
    #1
I just received a bulk PM advising me that due to possible login issues here on Serious, I am to delete all of my cookies to clear the problem. I would carefully consider this if I were you. Understand that if you do this ALL of the cookies to ALL of your web sites will be deleted. This will effect ALL of your login abilities to ALL of your membership web sites, online banking etc. Bad idea Serious

A better plan is to only delete the serious offshore cookies on your machine. There are a large number of browsers and OS out there. Just do a quick search on Google "How to edit cookies in IE8" or IE7 or firefox etc.

A much better idea Serious is to have your webmaster force expire the serious cookie upon the members next visit. It will force everyone to login again thus clearing the possible issue

Does this mean that you may have to re-enter your password somewhere else?

Relax guys!!! I delete my cookies about once a week. It's no big deal. You just need to type in your screen name and password once and your all set.

I delete all cookies daily. It's recommended, and some software programs like Crap Cleaner do it automatically.

Everything that relies on cookies to identify you when you return to a website will need to be re-entered.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Our recent software upgrade is causing some cookie conflicts.

Our software package doesn't accommodate invalidating the cookies. And we assumed that if you had the technical knowledge and wherewithall to dig in and identify the exact cookie, you'd know to do that anyway.

Yes, meaning that if you have 50 sites that you have user names, and/or passwords being remembered to you will get to reenter everyone of them.

There is absolutly no reason to have to delete cookies every day. They don't harm anything, all they do is store site info, (like your username here) on your computer. Unless you are going to porn sites or other iffy sites that you don't want someone else that is on your computer to see, cookies are harmless.

I guess my Pollyanna was incredibly convincing.
Sorry about that. Thank you for your explanation nonetheless.

I don't save my passwords. I re-log in each time.
The number of passwords that I use is much lower than 50.

I got the same private message and had to laugh just a bit. It said to delete cookies if experiencing login problems. Problem is that if you can't log in, you would never get to see the PM telling you how to fix it. Chicken\Egg stuff at it's finest

    OK- that's funny.

The login problems haven't been that you can't log in at all. They have been that there have been instances where several attempts are necessary and that when you leave you lose your password. I have yet to hear of anyone unable to access the site. You are able to make a "report problem" e-mail when logged out and we received a couple.
