Who says you have to carry your original card? I said it's pretty easy to confirm the number and matching identity. Your state of residence (by way of your "government issued ID", as required by every state) already requires your social security number to be on file.

Clay, I agree with the idea that the "demand" has to be quenched. But what you may be forgetting from your microeconomics class is the idea of alternative choices. Employers have alternatives to illegal labor: more expensive "legal" labor. You see, that's the whole reason employers are drawn to illegals is price. So if you remove that choice from the market, they won't stop hiring people, they will pay more. And consequently everyone will pay more.

It's like the whole Wal-mart/China thing: everybody hates it but nobody wants to pay the economic and environmental price of keeping it all here.

Thats the key...IF they ask for it ...i never ever seen them do that !!!!!!

I say shut the borders down and get our troops back here to keep this country from falling apart instead of fighting wars in countrys that we need to build back up again and have nothing to do with us !!!!!!!!

Illegal Immigrants in Arizona Work Out a Plan B

PHOENIX - Tourists from Mexico are a big part of Arizona's economy. According to a study from Arizona's Office of Tourism, between 2007 and 2008, 24 million Mexican citizens visited Arizona.

Those visits created 7,000 jobs and brought in $7 million a day. Shopping was the most popular activity.

For the past few days, the Mexican Consulate in Phoenix has been busy. Hundreds of families are preparing to either move back to Mexico, or put an emergency plan in place in case a family member gets deported.

A sea of people has been to the office to get documents to return to Mexico as legal Mexican citizens.

One woman who is in Arizona illegally says she will move back to Vera Cruz, Mexico this summer. Her children, who were born in Arizona, are legal U.S. citizens. They won't be able to attend school in Mexico unless they are Mexican citizens, so she is applying for dual citizenship for her kids.

Mexico Deputy Consul General Alfonso Navarro says SB 1070 has put many Mexico-born parents in a dilemma. They are here illegally, but children born here are legal U.S. citizens who would need papers to travel to Mexico. Many are preparing to leave Arizona just in case.

"For any catastrophic event, should mom and dad get arrested and deported, all the family will be able to be reunited on Mexican soil," says Navarro.

Navarro says the fear of the unknown is driving many immigrants away that view Arizona as hostile territory.

Here is what I see happening:

They have 90 days to get affairs in order before the law takes affect.

So maybe when the 90 days is up, there is a new business opportunity in smuggling the illegals BACK to Mexico

Mexico doesn't WANT them back - there will no longer be the influx of money.
Mexico doesn't have jobs for them, and will become the next Welfare country.
Mexico will try to make it difficult for them to even go back, so that will cause us to have to create a shelter for them while this is all worked out. We will have to feed and house them, which will then in the media will be referred to as a concentration camp.

Everyone in the US that is challenging this law will now be set on crusades to raise money to give to all these "poor immigrants that only came to this country to support their families"
There will be commercials on TV with a sad little mexican girl with big pretty eyes with Sarah Mclaughlin singing in the background (yeah, admit it, the first few times you saw that commercial for the SPCA you teared up a bit, I don't care who you are).

We ain't out the woods by a LONG SHOT on what it is going to take to enforce this law.

I have no problem with someone being here legally cause they pay the same as we do. If we got rid of the cheap labor that they are paying them then we'll go back to honest people earning an honest dollar and things would work out over time. And please if they would make it where you understand simple English to get your citizenship I would greatly appreciate it.

+1 on the english..but i think even some of the so called LEGAL had made it here ilegal and they should not be given that chance.

They're called ILLEGAL aliens for a reason. I applaud Arizona for taking this on. It's about time 'cause Obama isn't going to do jack to negatively impact his voting base.

Yea, they're here because of demand all right...demand for those entitlement programs legal resident taxpayers are sick and tired of paying for.

And yes a drivers license is enough documentation in the 42 states that require proof of citizenship to get one. This racial profiling crap has gotten way out of hand; pretty soon a crime victim won't be able to use skin color in the description of the attacker for fear of it being racial. They can ship the ACLU out with the illegals as far as I'm concerned.

The Mrs. stays home takes raises the kids and takes advantage of "the system". You see this family in the check out line at the grocery store, they have a full cart of food and pay for it with food stamps. Meanwhile the husband is behind them in line buying a couple cases of beer with cash!

Most people who complains about illegal aliens usually points to drugs, or government aid, or some other "negitive" behavior. I believe that the problem isn't the illegal alien, but instead the behavior.

If you want illegal aliens to stop selling illegal drugs, then learn the lessons from Prohibition and make drugs legal. If you want illegal aliens to stop receiving money/health care/etc from the government, then stop handing it out to everyone.

Illegal aliens aren't the problem. They are a symptom of bigger problems. Fix the bigger problems, and you will have nothing to complain about.

I'll have to disagree on your first part being in this country illegally is the problem and now with the economy struggling it's the time to clean this mess up... Arizona is doing what most states and cities should have done years ago when they started to see an influx of illegal's overrunning their social programs, schools and hospitals...

As for the second part of your statement you are absolutely correct the socialists in our governments are the just expanding the problems of Illegals.

Changing current policies as they relate to who is eligible for social programs is a start. But you will see the same hysterical grossly exaggerated outcry from the bleeding hearts if that were to happen.

The only good thing about this legislation is the timing, its in the spring and not near the end of the year... It drives me crazy when the newspapers print a sob story about (Enter the name of an Illegal) around the Christmas holidays because their going to be deported... They can peddle as much dope as they want, I don't see this as a big problem. My problem is with abusing the system and learn to speak the language. My grandparents came over from Poland on the boat and they SPOKE ENGLISH! If you want to fly the Mexican flag and stick with Mexican customs don't let the door hit you in the a$$ as you cross back over the border!

You can't legislate morality. If the government passes a law making something illegal, it doesn't stop everyone from doing it. Some acivities are so popular (drinking alcohol, using drugs, coming to America) that you can pass any law you like and it won't stop the behavior.

Since Americans refuse to learn the lessons of Prohibition, we are doomed to repeat them.

Seems like if you take a page from good ol' Reganomics you'd solve the problemo. If we'd stop paying them, they'd stop coming over here. Supply side economics. It seems pretty simple to me. The funny part to me is that some of the people I know that complain the most about illegals still hire them to mow their lawns and clean their houses.
