E True Hollywood Story will soon have another sad story to profile....
    #1
Guy won the 11th biggest Powerball ever and claimed the ticket the next day after winning. He was a clerk at the store where the ticket was bought. Not a whole lot of financial planning going on here.......

A Marshall man came forward today to claim the largest jackpot ever in the Missouri Lottery’s 24-year history – a Powerball jackpot worth $258.5 million. Christopher “Chris” Shaw, 29, said he hardly ever buys Lottery tickets, but he decided to buy a couple after he completed his shift at Break Time, 1000 W. College St. in Marshall, around 7 p.m. April 21.

“I thought somebody is going to win; there are too many people buying tickets,” said Shaw, who has been a cashier at the Break Time for the past month. He previously worked as a semi-truck driver, but decided to take a pay cut to “come home and be with family.”

After work, Shaw purchased a soda, cigarettes and $5 worth of Powerball plays using Quick Pick. The very last combination on his ticket – 11, 34, 41, 49, 55 and Powerball 20 – was the winner.

Shaw said a friend sent him a text this morning, saying that the winning ticket was bought at the Break Time where he bought his ticket. So he retrieved his ticket from his wallet, checked it on the Lottery’s Web site and discovered he held the winner.

“Holy smokes!” he recalled. “I’ve got it! I won!”

Next, Shaw headed to Break Time to check his ticket. When he arrived, he saw his boss outside putting up a sign announcing the store sold the winning ticket.

“I was like, ‘I need to check my ticket,’ and she was like, ‘Well, you know, take it inside.’

And I was like, ‘This is the one! I am pretty sure that I won the Powerball. I just need to know the numbers,’” Shaw said. “She was like, ‘What? Are you kidding me?’”

Shaw says he is a “day-by-day type of person,” so his thoughts about what he will do with the money are simple.

“I’ll take care of debts,” he said. “I need to get all of that squared away first.”

Shaw mentioned that in his previous job as a truck driver, he was able to travel to most states, but not Florida. He said he may now take him, his friend, Tosha Ewry, and her two boys to Walt Disney World® in Florida. He also plans to buy a new pick-up truck and maybe a “hot rod.”

“I’ve never had a new car,” he explained.

Shaw added that he likes to fish, and he recalled telling Ewry on the way to Jefferson City that, “I feel a boat comin’ on.”

In addition to Shaw’s win, Break Time will receive a bonus check for $50,000 for selling the winning Powerball ticket.

Shaw holds the 26th Powerball jackpot ticket sold in Missouri, and he is the 297th Missouri Lottery-made millionaire overall. To date, the Missouri Lottery has awarded the second-most Powerball jackpots, totaling more than $1.5 billion, of all 44 Powerball members.

Hopefully HE took the monthly/yearly payout, instead of the lump sum. That's the only thing that saves some of these winners from becoming another one of the E stories.

There's a show on one of the cable channels, that's called "How the Lottery changed my life", or something to that effect. It shows both sides to it, and will make you cringe at some of the decisions these people have made. I'm talking about decisions that AREN'T hindsighted.....common sense decisions that they completely blew their fortunes with.

There are both sides like I said though, and a few of them life large because they were smart about it. It's the ones that win like, $3 million GROSS, and end up taking the lump sum of just over $1 million that seem to lose it the fastest.

We had friends, this goes way back, who hit $1M (that was all that was available at the time).

She said the worst thing that happened to them was winning the money. They ended up with $45000 a year after taxes and between them had 7 kids.

They bought a new house, new vehicles.....loaned out money.....there were so in debt it wasn't funny, and they had people asking them all.the.time. for money.

They say not to loan money out. Give it away and be done, and don't give anymore. Invest some of it and enjoy what you can.

I do like "How the Lottery Changed My Life" show, and they do show both sides.

Amazing how people do not get any financial help when they win the lottery.

I wonder if I could pawn off my 29 Fever as the world's fastest fishing boat to him? Tell him I am giving him a deal at $150k.

2 great lottery stories for you......

The Powerball winner David Edwards out of Kentucky(fresh out of jail, unemployed) won 80mm in the Powerball (got about 27mm in cash). He is on the E show about "the curse of the lottery." He had a beard, long pony tail and walks the show around his Palm Beach mansion (actually Palm Beach Gardens, about 15 miles from the real Palm Beach). He was my aunt's neighbor. Guy had a 1.2mm house and 600K in cars in the driveway. He also had a penchant for oriental collectibles, if you told him it was rare, one of a kind he would buy it. On TV he was showing his collection of samurai swords/oriental knick knacks. ALL OF THE STUFF TURNED OUT TO BE WORTHLESS FAKES when the bankruptcy lawyers sold it at an auction. In 6 years he smoked through the money! He drove a Diablo, wife liked crystal meth and smashed her 360 Modena through the garage. House was robbed and guy was in the county jail (unable to pay bail) on a herion charge. 6 years and 27mm (cash, after taxes) was GONE!

2nd guy was a client of mine. Won 4mm in Ohio lottery and moved to FL. Christmas day 1993 he won 20mm in the FL lottery. Fast forward 10 years.....he was divorced (wife got 1/2), living on credit cards until the next check arrived and had 3 of his kids not talking to him. Died 9 years, 10 months after winning the big one and was living in Century Village driving a leased Impala (Century Village is a hell hole of a retirement community, mostly retired NY'rs that buy $30,000 condos to die in).

Both of these guys had great opportunities and blew the whole wad in short periods of time!

I cannot believe how happy I am you brought that guy up, because I didn't think anyone would believe me if I tried to tell his story! I saw that guy on some show after he'd won, THEN saw the show that told of his downfall.

Like you said, ALL of that CHIT he bought was fake, he'd paid OVER MSRP on many of his cars, and I'll never forget this.......he had the maid clean his entire house as you'd expect, except for one room.....his daughters...

    Why?

He said, quote, "honey, did you hit the lottery, or did I hit the lottery?" "You did, Dad" "That's right honey. So, to teach you some respect, you need to clean your own room......".......NO **** you guys....

He never paid his homeowner association bills, property taxes, etc, and anded up living in the storage building he'd rented for all of the CHIT he'd bought When the owner of the storage facility finally had the police remove him & his fellow meth addicted wife, there was literally human feces on the ground all over the storage area.

I'll never forget him explaining to the cameras how "rare" all of those POS sculptures were, especially the dolphin one, that he claimed was the only other one besides the ones at Sea World!

Here's the whole story here. Sadly, the guy was a looooong time addict, so winning a chit tom of money was probably the worst thing that could have happened to him: http://tkcollier.wordpress.com/2006/...me-in-auction/

Had a similar situation near me a couple years ago. Had some friends that knew the guy second hand, unemployed, blow habit, etc. Guy hit for 10m I think, got 5m cash, bought a new house, Hummers and Caddies for the whole family etc. Rented out a local bar and threw a huge party for all his friends on his tab, with a Scarface style table of party faves. Basically lived large for less than a year, saw an article in the paper last fall about how he basically wasted most of it and was trying to salvage what was left. Saw the show about the guy from Kentucky a while back, was LMFAO when he was showing off his house and "collectables"
