Congrads and good luck Peter. I have a real weak stomach for blood but made it through twice. The nurses did laugh and escort me out after I made it through the delivery. Some orange juice and a cold towel will help you right out.

    Nope!

I passed out in college watching a childbirth video in a first aid class. In my defense, I was extremely hung over. No such problem in the delivery room. The "unkindest cut" was a bit disturbing. I asked the doc for an extra stitch or two for the wife. The doc was female and not amused! You will do fine!

I am not a fan of any kind of blood, guts, etc. but it is different being your kid.

Still pretty gross but not pass out gross. Honestly the birth is the easy part at least for us guys. The sleep deprivation they put you through will kill you later.

Just kidding. good times. Good luck to you!

as an anesthesiologist I have witnessed thousands and thousands of births and all are unique and special for those involved... don't worry about passing out or puking, happens all the time

epidurals are much better than advertised, friends will tell you all the horror stories on how it didn't work, wore out or was painful but in the right hands is a safe, quick, painless and very effective procedure.

I have seen deliveries that were videotaped, webcasted and photographed beyond belief, have seen them with everybody ranging from grandpa and kids, neighbors and drinking buddies in attendence (one time 14 people were in the delivery room!!) but by far the best times are witnessing first time mom and dads see their new baby come into this world and into their arms.

Enjoy the whole experience, believe me you will never forget it!!

STAY BEHIND HER SHOULDERS! For the love of god don't get anywhere near that war zone that day. You'll never want to remember your sand box looking like that. With that being said it's prob the most amazing feeling you'll ever have so take it all in. Congrats.

You can do that. You can do whatever you feel most comfortable with. None of it grossed me out, but I passed on the cord-cut. I didn't see it giving me any enhanced experience of the event. If I were the only guy in the room and had to, it wouldn't have been a problem. Most of all, the experience sort of removes you from the reality of what's going on.

Mostly, remember it's her that's going through this. It's your job to make it as best for her as possible. They're all different. And there's alot of hormones flowing around. You won't know how her experience is until it happens.

P.S. Every guy asks for the extra stitch. If you don't your doctor is going to think you're a homo.

LOL. Come on, I have some class. I asked if a "high protein" diet would be beneficial at this point

watching the episiotomy on son #1 was a bit much and the C-section procedure on our middle son was "interesting", other than that it was cool to see
