for me the attitude of the sailor has depended on where I was boating; in Portland where everyone is in comparatively close quarters, the sailors are at odds with powerboaters (especially go-fasts) because of reckless behavior. My loud engines are not liked but I always drop down to an idle when going through a bunch of sailboats and it is generally appreciated and waves are exchanged. In Seattle however there is more room and boaters of all stripes are mostly genial and exchange waves.

Ah long time debate. I have met alot of nice sailors and alot of jags. I can sail don't hate don't really enjoy it either. Blow boats can't out run the biting flys on Lake Michigan

Ok on a good note, I tow a buddie's A-skull(something like that) out most Tue. night during the summer for the Yact Club races, no engine on boat. Tips over once in awhile, 37 ft., 2 years ago, turtled and stuck mast in bottom of Lake Charlevoix, broke some lines getting that thing back over, come to think of it, they never paid for the lines or vent on the PG it broke. But the point is we can get along.

I don't even wave at Sailboats anymore because I know 98% of the time I won't get a wave back. Come to think of it, I don't wave at cabin cruisers or yachts either around here for the same reason.

Ever notice at the marina they stay down in their cabins ? They don't come out, like their hiding in the basement.

A couple of years ago I was taking some of my neighbors from the dock for a run to the city for lunch 18 miles. My neighbor right next to my boat (a blow boater) asked if he could tag along. I say no problem jump in we get to Chicago in a few mins. from the marina, and he pulls me aside and asked how fast we got up to, I said not real fast 50-55 ish and he is blown AWAY. So I ask him how lomg does that trip normally take him and like has been said b/4 it's an all day adventure, now I am floored!!!! I think like has been said here before it takes all kinds...

P.S. I wave at everbody on the lake also, we are all out there trying to have fun....

I wave to them all, even the flippers. For them, I have a bigger smile. It's not just go fasts, many hate all powerboats.

I had a sailboat on LI Sound once. It was fun for awhile. The biggest thing is the time, as you found out, to take any trips. It's not like you can come home from work and blast across the lake for dinner, or anywhere for that matter.

In general, I think their shoulder chips are waaaaay too big. Not all, but a large enough percentage that you notice it.

We have a ton of fishing boats on the Winnebago system here. I wave when passing them and usually just get a cold stare back. Whatever

That is cause they are eating the peanut butter and jam sandwiches they brought from home instead of supporting the Marina's restaurant.
