Straight 40 makes cold cranking much harder and you get the same hot film strength of 15w 40. You do lose some additives that don't contribute to lubrication and can cause deposits.

All oils are compromises. Straight 50 weight racing oil would give you fantastic protection but no anti-oxidants or cold flow additives. It's going to be tough to crank when cold. For a racing engine that's going to be serviced every time it's used and coming apart regularly, it's the way to go. If you change oil every 40 hours and go 500+ between refreshes, you need a different oil.

I mix 50/50 15/50 mobil1 full synthetic, and 20/50 valvoline racing non synthetic and have had great results with 460 hours on my 500hps. This is what the guy i bought my boat from used in there race boats and in his own , mine now. Said it was there secret edge for race boats.

looked through two Walmarts one in OH and one in WV and couldn't find it, i guess i'll have to order it. That was one of the reasons i went with Mobil 1 because it was so easy to find.

I know this has been covered before but, what is the best oil you can use in a 500efi? Merc oil is 25W40 and probaly way over priced.

I have talked to a guy working at Walmart in the automotive section and he seemed fairly knowledgeable. He said that it all depends on which warehouse is supplying the store. The warehouse basically controls what they stock on the shelves. He said they can't even special order it. The Walmarts at LOTO have also quit carrying 15w-50.

The sale at Oreily Auto Parts is just slightly more expensive than the $23.50 Walmart price at $24.95 for 5 quarts and the sale goes on until the end of the month.

I just grabbed 2 of the 5 qt jugs of the 15w-50 at Wal Mart Thurs, what a great deal. Local auto shop had it for 10.99 a quart!

Way cheaper than the Mobil 1 V Twin (20w-50) I used last year, which I guess has a bit more ZDDP, but not worth over twice the price.

I was also shocked to find the Wix filter was half the cost of a M1.
