03-16-2010 04:17 PMBack in the 80's, the Concorde visited the EAA in Oshkosh, WI. Upon arrival, it performed a touch and go, bank right w/full afterburners. The exhaust was then pointed directly at the crowd. That was the loudest sound I ever heard to this day. That bird had some serious HP

03-16-2010 04:33 PMThis is probably the loudest of all our military planes. Way louder than a B-1

03-16-2010 04:36 PMWe gave our 111's to the Australians. The're putting them to good use. Or at least hving fun with them. here's one breaking the windows out of and blowing the siding and spouting off of an observation post.

The F-111 had two different rides for TFR or terrain following radar , soft ride which adjusted slowly to upcoming objects , and hard ride which made adjustments at the last second, caused a lot of earlier accidents because the pilot would try to wrest control from the computer when he thought it wasn't working. also the gattling gun could not be fired because the gunsmoke would stall out the engines.
The new FA-18 Super Hornet (larger than the FA-18 hornet) will give anyone a run for their money on noise. especially the fact that Navy Pilots practice carrier approach even while landing on Navy Bases !Parabellum FJ²B

03-16-2010 06:25 PMI should have taken a trip on the Concorde (just not that one flight that never got out of France ). I had been to Europe a few times before that crash but the ticket on the Concorde would have spent more than the whole vacation travel budget!

I can't tell you how much I miss the Tomcats. What a classic, elegant aircraft.
