What Adhesive For Power Steering Ram Plates?

Debating this on another forum. I am installing full Zeiger dual ram hydraulic steering on my Donzi 22 Classic with HP525 EFI. What should I use to attach the ram plates to the transom?

I got your nuts hangin' hehe. Yes there will be nuts and bolts and SS inserts to limit compression of the transom. I'm getting mixed recommendations on the adhesive/sealant though. I will use what this poll ends up indicating.

5200, you only have to use enough to seal around bolts, not neccesarily enough to bond the ram to the boat. if you use 5200 you Never have to worry, it won't budge unless you want it too..

I agree on the 5200 if the ram ever came off there will be a piece of your boat attached to it. Why take the chance?

5200.. Anti-compression sleeves a good idea, and epoxy seal the holes if they are through wood..

Here's the question...

Will the plates ever come off the boat? Would there ever be a need to take them off?

5200 - permanent
4200 - in case you ever change your mind.

I try to avoid 5200 on most things, just in case it needs to be removed EVER. 4200 or lifecaulk for most everything, 5200 for hull/deck joint.

The 4200 and 5200 have the same sealing properties. The 5200 just has twice the adhesive strength. The bolts are going to be what holding it on, so I would go 4200.

Because it makes 3m money! The poll shows it is an even split so people are buying it. I used to use 5200 on everything because I read about it on on of these forums years ago, then I tried to remove a swim platform we used it on. It took off gel and a couple layers of glass in places! 4200 will work just fine for your application, but 5200 is twice as strong.
You just have to decide if you want to be able to remove the bolts from your rams and still run the boat.

5200 is for permanent installations and has a 700psi tensile strength
4200 is for semi permanent installations and has a 300psi tensile strength

4200 cures very quickly compared to 5200 and is not as easy to work with.

5200 is the only way to go. And yes you can remove the plates later if you want to. You just have to go about it the right way and it will be fine.
