    For Immediate Release

    January 23, 2010 Indianapolis, IN.

The Offshore Super Series (OSS) is pleased to announce its 2010 season will once again kick off with Smokin' the Sound (STS) in Biloxi Mississippi May 20 - 23, 2010. The virtual "stadium" seating along Casino Row sets STS apart from other race venues for watching some of the most impressive powerboats in the world topping speeds of over 150 MPH. Sunday night's STS's award ceremony will once again feature The Randy Linebach Lighthouse Award. This perpetual trophy recipient is selected by vote of the OSS membership for the racer in any category demonstrating exceptional teamwork, sportsmanship and camaraderie.

In addition to STS being a great race site and venue, OSS will be introducing lower costs for the teams.

The OSS Board has reduced all fees for the 2010 Season.

    1) Lower Hull Registration of $1500; Owners will have two payment options; one will be to pay up front. This option will also afford an owner the added discount of $375, making the total hull registration only $1,125.00, or 50% less than 2009. The second way is the pay as you go plan; in this option the owner will pay $500 per race until the $1500.00 registration fee is satisfied.

    2) $700.00 Membership Credit; Another savings to the teams will be a $700.00 credit that will be applied to crew membership fees. The credit will be for two riding and up to five additional non riding crew. Any additional members over the seven will be at $300 for riding and $50 for non riding members. This is a savings of $1,100.00 over 2009 membership fees. These new lower fees will save up to $2,225.00 for 2010 registration and membership costs.

    3) Lower Race Entry Fee; The new race entry fee for 2010 will be $1,125.00, 25% less than last year's $1500.00.

Something else that is new for Biloxi and the 2010 season will be a drawing for a free hotel room for the race weekend. Teams that raced in Biloxi and LOTO in 2009 will be eligible for this free room drawing. Winner will be announced and notified at a later time. Board Chairman, Mike Mares said, "We (OSS) intend to continue this new room drawing at each OSS race site throughout the year." Race Producers, Woody Bailey, Rusty David and Asher Travis, along with the STS Team, are hard at work to continually improve their world class site. Bailey said "We are looking forward to a great weekend and are once again rolling out the red carpet to welcome all racers and fans to the Mississippi Gulf Coast." Bailey added "We are planning to have more promotional items to be given away at STS 2010. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available."

The second race on the circuit will be the 2nd Annual Lake Cumberland Gran Prix in Kentucky. This year the Cumberland Race will be June 3-6, 2010 and in a different location around the City of Somerset, KY. Somerset is on the opposite end of the lake and has plenty of hotels, motels, restaurants and shopping. Lee's Ford Marina is the host for the 2010 event. More about this event and the rest of the OSS season will be announced in the near future.

For more information on any of the above, please visit www.offshoresuperseries.com or call 817-845-4938

The OSS is a not for profit association dedicated to the advancement of the further
development and growth of offshore powerboat racing in North America

I thought OSS had a different date in mind for Biloxi....

It is now back to back weekends with Ocean City, Md (May 28th thru the 31st) which will make it quite tough for anyone that wanted to participate in both...

With the warmer temps down there, I was hoping it could have been earlier...

    Oh well.....

    Best of luck !

They moved the date so that it was not on top of the SBI Miami race.

So instead it ends up being smack in the middle of SBI's 2nd race weekend of the year and OPA's Ocean City race Memorial Day weekend making it 3 Race weekends in a row.... Only in the USA ....

As one Cat Outboard's name states, "YOU'RE GONNA HAVE THAT !"

There is only so many weekends open if you don't want races to overlap. I really doubt this will cause to many teams issues, the teams that cross race will still do their normal routine and those that don't will still do their normal routine.

I didn't make it to St Clair last year... Wasn't that where it was all suppose to come together ? Not sure what happened at that event. Only thing I remember was an announcement 3 days prior to Patchogue that was not very promising...

    It is what it is.....

True, but at least with the southern states they all seem to like to jump start the season in April. Not sure why it could not be kept in April other than perhaps not enough time to organize the 1st event of the season under new management.... There are a lot of open weekends in the south prior to May 15th....

Tim..... as previously stated......the water depth where the racecourse is in Biloxi can be shallow on different tides and lunar phases.....it only gives the Smokin' The Sound people 1 week a month that they can run this race. The May 20-23 weekend is that one. We will be there racing....where will you be that weekend?

    Well thank you Ryan....
That explains a lot more than that it was only moved off the date so as not to conflict with SBI Miami Race....
I hope to be shooting something that weekend....
I am currently putting together my schedule which is tough to do when not all that I need is yet available... Should be another crazy season !

Tim, it was on the date in April that fit the tide schedule, that conflicted with Miami, so they moved it to the date in May that worked with the tide schedule and didn't conflict with any other race. Biloxi wasn't exactly balmy last year in April so I am glad they didn't move it to March instead. I like it in May personally, plus it gives a few more weeks to get boats ready.

Just a thought, perhaps with Marathon not hosting the event this year on that weekend, see if SBI actually has a signed contract for a race that weekend in May. The tides are far better on that weekend of May 15th.

The week later is showing that HIGH Tide is in the early mornings which would mean the tide will be going out before the races even start.
Unless I am reading something wrong, that May 25th doesn't look very promising... April 25th may have been better as it is HIGH a bit later than May 23rd .

    April Sunday 18 High 1:20 PM 2.3
    April Sunday 25 High 10:10 AM 1.2
    May Sunday 16 High 12:19 PM 2.5
    May Sunday 23 High 8:44 AM 1.5

Tim, what is the big concern? Your efforts and concern probably could be put to better use working on races in your backyard that are on the same day, much less the weekend before.

And its not all about the high tides, notice the low tides for May 21/22/23rd are above sea level.

Forgot to add there will be 2 new SVL teams. One is a husband/wife team from Missouri. Randy is already scared, and thinking of retiring. The other a brand new Phantom from New York area I believe.
