Yeah. I am getting much closer. Wrapping up the tank install and painting the bilge. Got about a third of it painted yesterday. Gonna be back in there this afternoon and over the weekend. I am thinking about throwing some carpet in there before I put the bolsters back in. The loncoin floor is lame.

No chit. And fluid that has to be changed? No way. Learn something new every day.

I would have sent them straight to paint and never serviced them.

Not until I get the stripped plugs out. All evidence points to this being the same oil from two owners ago. (Knowing the process and when it was painted and everything.)

I think I'll change it now and do paint last.

Oh, not good. Use lots of spline grease on the shafts also when you put them back on. That's the secret to making your couplers last a long time. Mine must be 10 years old now.

The splines are ok. It was the internal drive oil.

I am going with brand new couplers.

There are cosmetic restorations, and then there are real restorations.

The rotten fuel fill tube that was leaking into the upper bilges.

I've replaced 3 of those in the last year (two on one boat, and one when I replaced the fuel tank on the Wellcraft)

Thanks. It's already replaced. I got some good stuff from Iboats or boatbandit for about $9.00 a foot. It was only 6 feet.

Boat is actually pretty much finished. Just been too busy to post.

I am so glad that I took my time. Once the shakedowns are over I am going to do some cockpit and cabin enhancements. Like snap-in carpet on the deck of the cockpit. Gonna do a new bow hatch. A prior owner was sold a new bow hatch, but they just painted the old one and put it back on backwards and leaking, with missing sealant. But the rubber gasket leaks. Bad design. Old hatch. New one please. I prefer to see through it.

I will state for the record that you thought the tank might be leaking. I came over, looked in the bilge and saw gas. We wiped it up, had a beer, checked again and more gas in the bilge. I as well as others told you it was a 20 year old alum. tank and to replace it. I also came over the day you started cutting to make sure you didn't level the neighborhood with an unplanned bar-b-que. I also suggested harbor frieght cutting wheels (OK, I phucked that one up). I saw with my own eyes fuel soaked foam and a corroded tank with perforation. I also saw an area of wet wood on the bulkhead and discussed the best way to fix it with you.

I know Fundy well enough to know that he realizes he bought a 20 year old used boat, and as such there are bound to be things that need to be fixed whether they were found on a prepurchase inspection, declared by the previous owner or completely unknown to the previous owner. Thats just the nature of older boats. Sure he could have patched it together to get on the water sooner, but stood a good chance of loosing another summer down the road making repairs. He chose to take his time and do everything completely the first time so he could later enjoy it without interuption.

If anyone has any questions, I would be more than happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge.

The truth is, that it was more of a RESCUE than a restoration.

I am glad that I RESCUED the boat.

My only regrets involve posting my experiences and being bashed for it.

I come on these websites to look at pictures of boats and learn stuff. I couldnt care less about the nonsense.


Anyhow, your boat is very cool and I look forward to seeing some pics of the power. What kind of HP are you going to run? I nearly bought a 28 Apache 2 years ago called Warpaint before I found out that it had been in a severe incident and partially sunk and was not structurally sound. It was a cool boat though and I would have bought it. it had twin 650hp.
