Why No Mike Peters Boats in USA?
    #1
I was wondering after the showing the Qatar had in Key West, why do we not see many Mike Peters designed boats in the US? His boats have one 14 straight class one titles I think?

What are your thoughts on his designs versus say Skater, MTI, or Mystic?

yes warpaint is an old MP design, and Platinum is as well. I guess my main question is why are there not more considering their success overseas and at Key West....

Maybe the part that he doesn't actually build them plays apart. There was a OSS SuperCat Popeyes that ran real well after they got the last surface right.

you can say that again they were in their own class!!! LoL

Seriously they did start with other boats, but i am not sure of the HP difference.

That design sure must be doing something right if its dominates overseas.

Mike Peters says that Mystic copied his design, although not sure that is true....They sure do look very similar....

I was very impressed with the two Quatar boats. They toyed with the other boats IMO until late in the race each day. Then they ate 'em up. Like I said, very impressive to me...but I'm sure that I don't know as much about them as you guys do. Someone said that the one boat had Lambo engines and the other one had Sterlings. 800 and 900HP I believe.

They didn't pick up all of that speed late in the races because they were getting low on fuel!!

they are both 927 HP (restricted), the v-12 at 8500 rpm and the sterling at 6500 rpm, they weighed 10,560 coming out... so other than more HP, more tunnel width, more hull length plus rudders.... it was pretty even with the 850 boats. It was still fun though. They could of ran off and hid from the drop of the flag, but they made a show of it for the fans, plus they were good guys to talk with and hang out with.

Thanks for the info sean. Like I said, they did put on a good show!

What power does the CRC boat have in it? 850's? They did quite a bit of running with them....until late in the races!

Were they in their own class, just the two of them?? That's BS if so!

Yes JT ran CRC hard (broke a six on the last lap friday), but Curtis and Matteo were just playing out there. The orginal intent was to put them in 850, but they are just to much boat for that, we could match the HP with ecu's/pulley changes, but you can't make up for size and lift. They ended up with their own 850 Extreme class. Hopefully something can be worked out over the winter to bring everybody (750/850/c1) into a single class.

It was still a blast though.

Offshore Racing wasn´t designed to be a spectator sport, it's for people or companies with's lots of money to push the envelope of endurance technology and hopefully put a trophy on a mantle. It's man vs the elements, not like boats with like engines running in circles.

So we got Apache/Maelstrom, Tencara and Platinum sofar.

Maybe the answer is that the market for cats in the States nowadays is Nor Tech and Skarter territory...
