First question...what drives? #6's? No power would still take a lot of coin to get up and running even if you are doing the work yourself, plus you are looking at a 10 yr old hull.....

If you have the scratch to put it back together, feed it, and keep insurance on it, you probably have enough to buy one ready to go and newer. A "bargain" is not what most people in that stratus are looking for.

apparently it comes with everything except motors including exhaust. Plug in some monster motors and rock and roll.

Is there anything aside from fuel tanks to be wary of? Anything about this particular boat, does anyone know it?

I guess I should explain a bit better.

lets say someone is interested who wants a boat with no power and wants to do the work with his personal mechanic and his own engines that he has already.

Skilled labour is cheap for some people.

Is there anything wrong with this boat that anyone knows aside from the more obvious stuff that Ted has pointed out (not being a smartass just looking for a bit different info)

I love this boats paint!!! Really cool.......anyway, if the tanks aren't done, do the tanks. Call Peter. Also, I assume you or your friend have priced insurance? Better check the trailer too, after about 5-6 years they need alot of TLC......

he is thinking of sending his out to his guy in Ottawa and built to 1000's or 1100's. That would make it run ok.

I am just trying to figure out some history on it for him. The motors have nothing to do with me I have enough to worry about with my own motor!

Yeah, and being a 40 puts some boat under you for the rougher days out there. I can't think of anything outside of what the survey should look for. The norms, like moisture, gimbals, and obviously you're going to have them check the tanks. Maybe see if they could pressure test the headers....that may be pushing it, ... but, if everything checks out, that's a sweet deal for you right there. You LOVE that boat, trust me.

Have the Hulls (obviously the decks have) changed on the 40's in the last 10 years?

I understand it to be an entirely different hull. And there are two completely different 40's now. One is a shortened 46.

    That's right.

There's the classic 40, which you can get with either the classic deck, or the cut down version.

The newer hull is the 40ss, which has a deeper tunnel.

What are the differences in performance?
