No, and actually a 15w or 20w50 would be better. 25w-40 is only a Merc spec, therefore they hose you on it!

Not to mention the presumption that it still contains adequate ZZDP. I have found it in some walmarts at reasonable prices.

Not sure what ZZDP is -but OK. Who's a Land and Sea dealer I can buy direct from and ship it here? I'm sure that's still cheaper than what I pay for it.....

I had a conversation with one of the guys at Merc Racing one day about what oil to run in the 850's when we had the cat .... he mentioned something about the parafin(sp?) in the synethetics wasn't a good thing?? Even though they were out of warranty we still ran the Merc oil - instead of Mobil 1 which is what we ran in everything else up to that point ....

    Thoughts??

Had a merc rebuild spin a bearing like 20 hours in. The only question the merc rep asked was what oil I had in it. I told him to look under the back seat at the bottles I carry on the boat. Merc oil there . Not one other question , they replaced the long block and picked up all the labor !! Worth it in my mind. Wall mart has the oil packaged as quicksilver just like worst marine. Same merc blend. Mercs oil has had 2 big price increases in the past 2 years , like 15% !!!!!

Opps ZDDP. Basically Zink, removed from most auto oils due to catalytic converter problems but it keeps flat tappet cams alive if you are dealing with an older engine.
