    1999 38 Scarab 2 step hull with 502 Mags
    #1
Looking to add a good wave crusher to my fleet. I test drove this boat and it feels solid and heavy and gets up on plane well but honestly how fast should this boat be with Bravo outdrives 1.5 ratio 26P Bravo 1 props and these engines? What max rpm? I'm not looking for a speed demon, mainly a family wave crusher but realistically what HONESTspeed should this setup see? And what's you guys opinion on an appropriate price? You guys out there with this setup please give your experience.

1999 38 Scarab 2 step hull with 502's like the header says....
1999 502 MAGSīs = 415 hp should fit the bill...

    Agreed?
Offshore Racing wasnīt designed to be a spectator sport, it's for people or companies with's lots of money to push the envelope of endurance technology and hopefully put a trophy on a mantle. It's man vs the elements, not like boats with like engines running in circles.

Well here's what I got: top speed 62 mph, and 50 mph at 43-4400 rpm. Is that appropriate for this boat?

Seems the scarabs steps donīt do much...same speeds could be obtained with a stock 38KV MV edition (454/420s) and also when it got 415/502īs in.

I would like to think the 38 AVS would do better than 62 with 415HP motors, like 65-67mph. Always heard good things about the AVS 38 hull design.

I'm sorry but I think you may be under proped. Your set -up should do over 70mph. My '89 38' excel/ thunder straight vee runs close to 70mph with 454s & bravo 2s. Are you sure their 26p, if so you should be going a whole lot faster than 50 at 4400.Good choice in boat though!

hi i have an 87 38 kv with 575merc with #4ssm and a 18x28 prop 1.5 ratio and when i got the boat a couple yrs ago i would run 72 now it will only run 68 but i had engines pulled out and had a broken piston so i'm thinking if i get a little more hp i should be mid 70's.
