Yeah, it's amazing how there's "no room for truth on the internet."

    The answer..and oar company.
    Jack, Your information is incorrect......

When Bobby was building the Squadron for Kilpatrick they needed to name the boat. Kilpatrick was half Irish, half Indian and was also a prized fighter. Bobby came up with two names; "Apache" and "Raging Bull"... Apache was choosen because Bobby thought the Apaches (Geronimo) were fierce fighters and a few other reasons. So they settled on Apache and went racing...

Shortly afterwards Bobby started Apache, taking his idea from the Kilpatrick Squadron...

Then Bobby came up with the "nickel" logo. He had the $5 coin in his desk and thought it would be a cool design for a boat company so he modified the coin, Gail Paik did the lettering etc. Matter of fact, the first "Nickels" said Apache Boats. Only a few of those logo's were ever made. Apache Powerboats in the logo was later....

Then Jack Kramer worked with Bobby to get it trademarked. When they submitted the logo to the TM Office it was rejected at first because they found out there was a wooden oar company that was using a similarly designed logo. Bobby's design was similar to the oar company but it was not taken from it.

A letter was sent to oar company asking if they could have permission to use Bobby's logo for the company. The oar company said; "We make wooden oars not powerboats so go ahead!"

The TM was approved and the rest is history.

Hopefully I captured all the details. Bobby tells the story much better than I can, obvisouly because he was there and did it!!!

Depends how you're looking at it but it was "named" Apache but it wasn't an Apache, Warpath was the first "41'" Apache.

    Squadron was 39'.

Okay let me see if I got this straight. Bobby S. thought it would be cool to use the logo of an oar and wooden nickel company for his boats. He asked Jack kramer for permission, and gave all the documents to Cashbrain. End of story.

Again Jack, you're wrong.... The NAME or the LOGO didn't come from an Oar company. Please don't twist what I wrote.... Read the fine print... 1. Bobby comes up with Name. 2.Bobby designs logo. 3. Logo was rejected when they went for the patent because it's "similar". 4. Oar company say's it's ok for him to use his logo not theirs....

The logo didn't come from the Oar Company as you say..... Documents you have should show a release from the oar company but they didn't "get" logo or the name from the oar company.

So now we're talking about Word marks???

I'll said it for the last time, if you don't believe me then I suggest calling Bobby directly. Bobby didn't come up with the name from anywhere else other than Bobby coming up with the idea because Kilpatrick was half Irish, half indian and a prized fighter..... Bobby designed his logo from an idea he got from the $5 coin..

    What part incomprehensible?

FYI, the Apache indians were around long before any other company...

The pic I posted- it's Jerry, but the wrong Jerry. Jerry K had light brown, curly hair. Kinda looked like Jerry Reed. That's Jerry Jacoby in the pic with Bobby- in AJAC Hawk. Probably around '82.

Bobby called me earlier. I asked. He says he still has the release from the oar company. Frank is correct.
