TOM TOM all the way with me. And I´m a Trucker... also got Garmin in the car but like the Tom Tom more.
Offshore Racing wasn´t designed to be a spectator sport, it's for people or companies with's lots of money to push the envelope of endurance technology and hopefully put a trophy on a mantle. It's man vs the elements, not like boats with like engines running in circles.

garmin works well, better than my factory installed unit in the Navigator.
I'd buy a refurb model because you'll probably wind up tossing it in a year or two anyway for one with updated maps. It's not cost effective for any of these GPS units to update them.

Garmin, make sure you get the model with a W(widescreen) at the end of it. Much easier and nicer to look at.

11-02-2009 12:05 PMMy wifes Garmin was the horrible when we first got it. They finally came out with firmware that fixed it. I don't remember the model but it used to send us in the worst ways and would even take you to the wrong towns half if the time. Now it is working well and my wife loves it. I don't know if they have them with potentiometers in them but I love that in my built in unit. When the signal drops it still works. So if you go into a

Garmin has been offering a one time only map update within 60 days of the first time a new unit is turned on.
My nuvi 500 just happened to have a us topo map installed from the previous weekends off roading. Just go to mygarmin.com register your product and in my case they downloaded 1 gig's worth of 2010 US road maps and another gigs worth of us Topo updates. That's basically $140 worth of map updates for free.Last edited by Wobble; 11-02-2009 at 01:44 PM. Reason: 60 days
