Many people volunteer there time, over a year, to make this a success.

We were asked to do this "Drag" race at specific times of the missing man fly over ( in respect for our 2 racing friends from LOTO that passed away last November) on Saturday and Sunday. Because of the rain delay on Sunday, it was not well orchestrated with the missing man flyover.

We are sorry it did not meet your personal expectations, but I am sure you found other methods to support the fund raising activity in your community this year.
I quoted your reply just to allow me to further explain where I am coming from.
I have attended most of the Shootouts since I moved to the lake area in '97. It has definitely developed a lot over the years, I am impressed with the charitable income that is derived from the event. I built and raced what was the Fastest V hull in the shootout in '99. That was back when it was a "Race" of sorts, when there was competition in different classes. That original class structure has since been diluted with silliness such as " Non-Professional, Professional, and Manufacturers Driving classes" how ridiculous. Actually it started going south when they started to let boats with a canopy cut in line to run.
It is no longer what one would call a race. just a speed run.
My father has been a career firefighter in Illinois, and here in Sunrise Beach, he and his co-workers have benefitted from the Shootout Proceeds. He has also volunteered time to the Shootout. I have never actually volunteered at the shootout, my only donation has been my advertising in the program and my actual participation. I do not have excessive amounts of expendable income, and have to spend most of my time working to help keep my family business running and supporting my family. I would like to be able to do more, maybe someday.

The "Drag" race, although I personally thought when they started that, it was just another hold up in the action for the "racers" that were waiting out in there boats in the 100 degree heat to make a run. But I understand that when it was Bob and His son ( well known by many locals ) with a total of 6 Big Blocks screaming down the lake together it was kinda cool for spectators. I am not sure that a two boat team of SVL's "Drag Racing" each other is quite the same, or honors Bob Morgan in some way. ( not taking away from the fact that many locals are also very in tune to the Saratoga Stampede and other Janssen boats ) I too, knew Bob ( i had never actually met J.T. ) and am saddened with the fact that I have to add him to the ever growing list of fellow racers we have lost.

On Shore, when the last Drag took place on Sunday everyone wanted to know how fast they were going, some sort of number, even Bob Teague was trying to get a number announced. So the boats were ran for all too see that were on site, on the radio, and on the internet, and everyone was disappointed to not hear how fast they actually went. A drag race on pavement is always accompanied by a time and speed. Clearly you could only get one number on a radar gun with both boats coming by, but it would have been nice to announce " here come Doc Janssen's super vee light race boats, side by side at 98 mph" or something.

If that statement was genuine, I respect that.

Hopefully that was not a wise crack statement on a personal level.

The blue/white 565 Outerlimits went 99 to win its class.

    Thanks
I don't know what you mean all washed up?
Did all the Outerlimits, 29' boats race? and did they each win a class? or were the two opens in the same class?

As for the drag race, I'm with Doc. The exhibition with the planes and the drag race in honor of those who started that tradition but are no longer with us, deserves the utmost respect from us all. Thanks.

We all wish they would have posted speeds on the OL SVL, but even more I wish they would have run it alone. I'm sure we'll see it in a race, probably Clearwater would be my best guess.
Rat - we certainly need to meet someday, as we know alot of the same people, and I believe we have had this Chine discussion in the past, But a "Chine Walk" is a violent side to side flop of the boat from Chine to Chine. Allison and Hydrostream pad bottom boats, will walk a bit. But a true Chine Walk at speeds in these boats can create bad results, it is also not as pronounced as it would be in an offshore boat with a steeper deadrise. Offshore boat that chine walks = Lavey Craft SVL.

Me, I completely missed the Blue and White OL with the 565 vs. the Red and Gray one with the 600.....

It appears as if the red and gray one did not run?

The LAvey SVL sold by the way....

Just a semantics difference in what we're saying I think. To me chine walking starts small, increases to what you are talking about unless you correct it....

You shouldn't be, I agree with them that the "Drag Race" exhibition was an important part of the event because of who it was in respect of. I liked Bob, hardly even knew Jeff at all, but still think about that day often.

So, no one should slam the drag race as rediculous, not real, etc. It was in respect of a couple of guys we lost in a tragedy we all know about. On the live broddcast, that was made very clear. If Doc tried to make it a good event, and tried to time it with the flyover as was requested, that was what was important. Not that it wasn't a real or great drag race. And no one is going to change my mind on that point.

It is a good looking boat. I am looking forward to seeing the canopy windshield construction. That is a lot of area, but from the pics it looks as if the backside has more support of the poly for strength.
Whether or not it chine walks is up to the abilities of the driver. It is just a balancing act. Many or most use tabs to help it balance.

    The boat looks pretty nice.

Brian is getting a lot of heat for the driving on the video. I guess the police on LOTO have already implemeted speed limits for the other poker run they have on the lake, and now they are afraid this video may influence them to implement the same thing for the other events associated with the Shootout, such as the run to the dam, poker run, and what was the Skater Fest.

I guess the main couple of spots on the vid were this first one where they buzz a drifting boat, looks like it is actually in the middle of the two, but the other boat may have slowed down.

You can watch the video at that section and see what you think.

The other one lake people are pointing to is this one where he goes inside the no wake/(swim area?) buoys, close to shore. Up here, they'd have a police officer at your house with a ticket if they saw that on a video like this one. Or they would have the documentation in the patrol boats and your boat would be pulled over the next time you were out, and then the reckless driving citation would be issued. There is zero tolerance for that kind of stuff on the lake I used to live on. When I was President of the Lake Association there, the sheriff would come to my house to see if I knew the boat or not. Typically, if it was back on the lake even weeks later they'd issue the citation and ban the boat from the lake. MAybe they should have edited the video a little more?
