"TUG IT", SVL66
Kevin Smith - Throttles
Pat Donovan - Driver
Everyone welcome the newest SVL race team to the board, the water, the competition, and the waves.
I must say, these guys already impress me.
Kevin was the one in Randy's Class 5 boat in Orange Beach. It is astounding that he'd ever get back in a boat after running anywhere with Mad Dog. Let alone Orange Beach in 6's plus while Randy was trying to run down a 41 Sutphen that started a quarter lap ahead of him.....
They pushed it so hard they cracked the hull and had to repair it Saturday for the Sunday heat......

11-02-2011 11:04 PMNow I probably shouldn't put this one in here, but well, it's me. Kevin and Randy had the championship, then they lost power and got passed. Oops!

11-02-2011 11:08 PMWell, not only did Kevin decide riding with Randy "Mad Dog" Typhoon was fun, he and his buddy Pat Donovan decided to go close the deal on Bruce Seroff's SVL66 boat as soon as they got back.
Bruce worked his butt off, (at least that is what he said), and put the boat back together. A little over a week after they got back, they were out practicing in the boat and learning how to run it as a team.
Today they got it back with the graphics and were kind enough to send me a couple of pictures.
Love the name.

11-02-2011 11:16 PMKevin and Pat would really like to say thanks to everybody at;
Smith Shipyard (Now do you get the name?),
Marine Technologies Inc.,
Tiki Bar of Solomons,
Mad Dog,
Absolute Neon, and
South Shore Marine of Severna Park, MD.
Without the help of all of these, there is no way they could have got the boat done in time to go run the SBI World's in Key West. Let alone have had time to practice both at home and down in Key West.
They are currently planning on heading out Friday and trying to be in Key West on Saturday afternoon. (Must be planning on practicing their race moves on the way down).
You guys and girls down there, say Hi!!!!
I cannot wait to see them run.Getting bad advice is unfortunate, taking bad advice is a Serious matter!!

11-03-2011 05:25 PMHere's the way that Bruce drove. I figure that's a little tame for Kevin after riding with Mad Dog Randy. So, I expect to see some shots that make Bruce look like his boat was hitting on 4 cylinders....

11-03-2011 07:03 PMOh yeah, I know. In rough water, he was always one of my favorites to win. But it would be no fun to not give him crap.....

11-03-2011 08:43 PMI brought you in and now I will rip you a new a$$. Its great to see these guys jump right in. Im so proud of them to put there program on the water and race this quick. Much will be learned in KW that will mold there racing carieer. These guys are willing to listen to all and take advice. Not like some new teams that think they know it all. They will only get better every race and I and every other SVL team will help them along the way untill they kick our butts. Kevin and Pat welcome aboard the SVL nation.

11-03-2011 08:52 PMRat, that was a lesson well learned by all. We lost on the 2nd to last turn with a 100 yard lead. No loss goes with out knolage on how to better your boat. We learned a lot on that loss. The best team of the day can screw up. So always and I mean always never give up!!! keep your compatition in site and push threw the hole race. If Eddie and Mark would have slacked off we could have possably re fired and won but the were warrieres till the end and passed us beacause they were in the game at the end. Our loss there gain !!!! Congrats guys on your win. It was well deserved.

Puerto Rico...........
after a rough testing session that morning, we were finally ready to race. I got the trim set just right, Tabs down and ballast tank loaded. We started off with a great run down the beach. Imco was running just a tad off our starboard side nose pointing to the sky. and Lavey was Port. It was a drag race to turn one. We thought the boat was running great! right up to the point, we went into guardian mode and were done no sooner than we started. Jeff has many pics of the aftermath. I can honestly say, we had Lavey beat going into turn 1. If we didnt break, It was ours to win. But like they say you have to finish to win!
Good luck to "TEAM TUG IT" You have to finish to win! Randy can attest to that. Im still trying to make it down. If not...I'll be tugging it at home....
