In the 15+ years that I was involved in offshore in the UK, I never had the privilege of meeting Ian but came to know of him as one of the best people ever to have been involved in the sport.
Some of the tributes to Ian can be found here http://boatmad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16244&page=4

I knew him very well and raced against him in two classes - he really was one of the best guys I have had the privilege of knowing in or out of the sport - I will be attending the funeral on Friday.

We have been producing a new boat for Endurance racing and events like Round Britain and after consulting with Rohese, Ian's partner we have agreed to name the model of boat the Stirling 34' in his memory. The first boat is due out of the mould in the next two weeks.
