But there's no sales tax...

I like the no sales tax. I've gone shopping in Portland to get deals. The gas can be a pain in the a$$. I used to drive to Los Angeles from Vancouver. Had an Excursion diesel and would fill up in Washington State to avoid getting fuel in Oregon.
I like the gas service as I'd prefer not get out into the rain. The thing about the property tax is that it is reasonably predictable and it can be budgeted for. With sales tax, each and every time your make a purchase, especially an impulse buy, gift or just something unexpected - you get nicked and there is less opportunity to budget for those instances. I'd rather know up front and years ahead of time that I'm gonna pay about $200 in property taxes each month and get it over with.
Mornin Ho's !:seeya:
Looks like an awesome day to go finish a bathroom remodel !!!:hurray:
Can't pump yer' own gas in Jersey either! So you have to tip also!
The only tips I give attendants is to stay clear of Key West and be veeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy careful around bobcats.
The few times I've got gas in Oregon didn't think to tip the attendant.
Oh yeah I found a good butcher shop here. What I really like is they are not metric. Even though I was taught metric in school, I'm old fashioned and use American!
Might be too windy for the Beach....
Our sales taxes suck because we have a federal and provincial sales taxes to pay. GST is 5% on most goods and services and PST of 7% on most goods and services, on alcohol and cigarettes its 10%, its 12% for cars. The GST and PST are combined on most things so 12% in sales tax on most things.
We were taught metric in school in the 70's....and I used it for ten years while working in the auto industry.....I've since forgotten it again.....;)
No state tax in Florida.
In the optics biz, everything was metric, in construction everything was SAE.
So, I guess I'm ambidextrous. Or, bilingual.
I loved the logic of the metric system and got used to it in the lab. I was all for converting over in the 70's. The half ass way it was done though mostly annoyed me; I wanted to be full in or back to English units.
I think Canada went fully metric in 1979. So by the time I was in school it was being taught. I lived in the states central Washington State from 2002 to 09, so I became Americanized.
Whenever I'm bragging to women about the size of my penis, I always use metric.....
Mornin Ho's !:seeya:
Another day at the Firehouse....should be fun...our laborer is in jail (again)
