We were looking straight down the barrel between turns one and two, she got about ten feet out of the water, bounced up to ten feet again and stuffed......she was underwater for a good 4 seconds.....it was 4 minutes before any rescue team got there. We have great photo's of the whole sequence, but we are awaiting news of the safety of the team before posting. I went and looked at the boat in the pits......and the canopy was shattered.
4 minutes? :willy_nilly:
wow that is crazy
Saw some other pics...it did look real scary!
Here is the sequence, on order, of the Warpaint stuff. I waited until I was sure of the condition of the both crewmen before posting.
We shot this from the outside of turn 2 looking down the straight on the boat Chartered by Shoot2Thrill and SeriousOffshore.
I hope you enjoy. My camera and lens are not nearly as good as some of the other, "real", photographers.......

The aftermath of the hit. You can see why we were all extremely concerned with the condition of the crew.

Fantastic pic's , I was sitting up in the flybridge (hanging on for all I was worth) And I thought there was no way someone wasn't seriously hurt in that stuff.
yowch.... glad he's gonna be alright. Saw the interview when he was at the hospital..... he's lucky to be here for sure.
AWESOME pics of the action ! ! !
Glad it wasn't worse for those inside.
Must have been one heck of a ride.
WOW! Glad they are both ok!
Good to see you over the weekend Paul, It's been a while!
Yes it has.....
Did you get everything done?????
I had to add this picture when I found it. Pete was trying to bet me that Warpaint was still sitting out in the water, waiting for the race to be over. He said there was no way they would tow a half sunk boat across a live race course. I told him it was gone.....:p
Sure is a good thing that I'm a nice guy and didn't want to just walk away with all his money.....
Tammy would have had to go without dinner that night......:sifone:

Watch and Weep Pete.......
Ouch, I thought it was still out there too......but once a wager was mentioned I p*ssed out !
Make sure you go to the home page and compare this sequence to Bobby's stuff way back when in a different Apache cat.....
eerie......
Found another with Warpaint being towed in while WHM is going by and one of the patrol boats is heading in also.
The boats were swinging pretty wide while this was happening.....

And, just in case you missed it, here is the link to Bobby's interview about the similarity of the two stuffs 24 years apart.....

Does anybody have any pics or video of Warpaint when it was raced as Canada Holmes from back in the day?? I have a friend building a big RC cat and would like to maybe do it for the model.
If you visit the story on the main Newsmagazine page, scroll all the way to the bottom. You'll see a link thanking Big Seas for the use of the video of Bobby's crash. That clip was taken from their "Legends of Apache" video. That video contains footage of Lorne and Canada Homes. It's available from Big Seas. Buy a copy and support the people that support us.
And once again, thanks to Rich Luhrs and his son Darren for kindly allowing us to use that excerpt from their video.
The only thing better than watching those big Apache's decimating the field at race after race is Rich's narrative- "The Magic throttle arm of Bobby Saccenti. Show 'em how it's done, Bob". Classic.
